Re: Espn
If we can get an address for espn why don't we tell them what we think of their coverage...a letter writing campaign.
Maybe they would listen (at least a little) if we listed our credentials and gave our opinion of their coverage....or would that be pissing in the wind? Jim |
Re: Espn
Just as NHRA has problems understanding and policing all of the classes in the sportsman
categories, can you imagine how badly those witless announcers for ESPN would butcher the explanation of the handicap starts and all of the different classes? I believe they should at least run footage, in a montage of sorts, of the "wheelie" (Comp, Stock, Super Stock) cars, so the fans get a taste of it. Then, if the feedback comes in asking for more, they have real data to make a decision to feature it. I have read somewhere, that ESPN really has little to do with the programming. Take, for instance, the Worlds Strongest Man competititions. If I recall correctly, someone films and edits these things together, and buys a time frame to show it. Then the people that own the time frame sell the advertising for that event. That is why you see those type of events late at night when you are surfing the channels, rather than during prime time. I'm not aware that NHRA and ESPN have the same deal, but it is possible. With that in mind, they will produce only what someone will sponsor... Comments? |
Re: Espn
I complained to ESPN about the sportsman races showing only the fuel wannabes and was told by ESPN that Lucas Oil controlled the classes that were shown. I bitched to them and never got a reply. So I don't watch either show. Thats gonna hurt em.

The other day, I called ESPN's complaint line--(860) 766-2236, to let them know what I thought of their having an "Inside Nascar", plus pre-empting one of our March national events for College Hockey!!?? If memory serves me correctly that weekend was when the qualifying was shown on Sunday after the "NHRA TODAY" show was on. I haven't heard anything from them yet on that (and I gave them both my cell phone number, and my email address)??? I'm not holding my breath waiting on a reply either!!! X-Tech Man, I sure hope you're making some progress with regards to that sportsman only (non-alcoholic) sanctioning body that was the subject of numerous threads a few months (+) back, to give us guys something to look forward too...Perhaps "Spike Tv" would be interested in showcasing our racing (if not "Speed Channel")??? |
Re: Espn
Mybe it is time we start our own association. We could call it ATSA. American True Sportsman Association. Only classes allowed are Stock, Super Stock, Comp, Super Gas, Super Comp. I would be willing to bet Spike or Speed would pick it up.

Count me as one...and one of my favorite match ups would be watching Steve Hagbergs Silver Savoy vs Jimmy De Franks Camaro...(since I'm friends with both guys, I'd be on the fence with a "MAY THE BEST MAN WIN" mindset), the only decision I'd have to make is where I'd want the camera's to be---if I was watching them in person I'd want to be at the Starting line (wheelstands), mid-track (high-gear acceleration, plus the sound change of the cars as they roar by...MUSIC TO MY EARS!!!), and of course the stripe! Plenty of other cool looking match-ups could be created that also would be more exciting (I.M.H.O.) to watch than that alcoholic/injected nitro crap!!! There's my .02 worth. |

Re: Espn
Here is the big problem with this thread. The show is not geared to drag racers it is for the drag race fan and there is a big difference. Just for the sake of argument there are ten thousand drag racers and the program is has an audience of two hundred thousand, the drag racers are 5% of the audience. I would say that ESPN would not be interested in the opinion of the ten thousand drag racers.
