Tom you said it exactly how I would. I last watched Cal at the '88 Winters and remember hearing other racers say how much a gentleman he was. The people I've met and friendships I've gained over the years are my most valued treasure and the only thing that can't be bought in class racing. Without the friendships....class racing is meaningless. Cal is another great soul I missed out on meeting.

Rest In Peace Mr. Queahpama

I know this thread is 2 years old.
But Cal was quite a gentleman. We had to rerun him 3 times in the final round of the 1980 Fall Nationals at Seattle.
He just got the car ready and raced didn't bi*tch a bit.
The first run they said we broke out with a nine second run (imposible even for us).
The second run the win light came on in Cal's lane well before either car got to the stripe.
The third time was a charm for Cal and he got the win.
I hate to admit it but we would not have been as easy going.

Cal and Ray (Tex) now know the true story of what went on that day.

My memories of Cal were his quiet manner and his wit, he always wore a different hat at every race that we saw him at and there was always something political with a humorous twist and very right on point. Good man,he will be missed. Our sincere condolances to his family.

Re: Calvin Queahpama passes

I knew Cal for many years as we both raced 283 cars way back in the 70's, in 1982 he purchased my 66 R/SA 283 wagon and raced it for years. I quit racing while I was raising my 4 daughters but regardless of how long we went between seeing each other he ALWAYS greeted me with that trade mark great big "warm" smile and a good solid hand shake. As has been said in every way possible; Cal was a good man and someone you would be proud to know, I was... He would do anything to help anyone! God Speed Cal... "You're the man" :)
