Re: Musical Tastes
Last night, at a remote Ca. hot spring, I thought I heard some keybord music from the parking lot. It turned out there was some young people staying in a converted camper van. One of them had his electric keyboard out and was entertaining his friends while trying to write a rock song with piano and/or organ. Of course I had to go over there and offer my opinion. LOL
I asked the four (three guys/ one gal) if they had ever heard of Procol Harum or A Whiter Shade of Pale ? They all answered with a blank stare and a no. I suggested that they research them a bit and start from there. ;-) Here's Gary Brooker, sounding a soulful as ever, and Matthew Fisher, original keyboardist and a Hammond master } https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMid4AV-6x4 |

Jackson Browne backed up by the Eagles...
I can relate... I'm sitting down by the highway Down by that highway side Everybody's going somewhere Riding just as fast as they can ride I guess they've got a lot to do Before they can rest assured Their lives are justified Pray to God for me baby He can let me slide 'Cause I've been up and down this highway Far as my eyes can see No matter how fast I run I can never seem to get away from me No matter where I am I can't help thinking I'm just a day away From where I want to be Now I'm running home, baby Like a river to the sea Baby, if you can see me Out across this wilderness There's just one thing I was hoping you might guess Baby you can free me All in the power of your sweet tenderness Yeah (yeah) Well, I can see it in your eyes You've got those bright baby blues You don't see what you've got to gain But you don't like to lose You watch yourself from the sidelines Like your life is a game you don't mind playing To keep yourself amused I don't mean to be cruel, baby But you're looking confused Baby if you can hear me Turn down your radio There's just one thing I want you to know When you've been near me I've felt the love stirring in my soul Yeah (yeah) Yes I have It's so hard to come by That feeling of peace This friend of mine said: "Close your eyes, and try a few of these" I thought I was flying like a bird So far above my sorrow But when I looked down I was standing on my knees Now I need someone to help me Someone to help me please Baby, if you need me Like I know I need you There's just one thing I'll ask you to do Take my hand and lead me To the hole in your garden wall And pull me through https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MIUAU4Sc2Y |

From Alberta, Canada.. Two Ian and Sylvia Tyson songs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3m7ckGhnsc Classic song from 1969 written by Canadian Ian Tyson (Ian & Sylvia) and performed by Judy Collins. She is backed by Buddy Emmons/pedal steel guitar; James Burton/electric guitar; Jim Gordon/Drums; Chris Ethridge/bass; Stephen Stills/guitar and Van Dyke Parks or one of two others on piano. Suggested by her boyfriend at the time, Steven Stills, as the follow-up to both sides now.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIgnHPqp0Dk |

For the new viewers ; One video per day, per poster, except for Two-fer Tuesdays
So far...not mentioned as a Canadian folk singer ( one of his many incarnations) Mr Neil Young This one was written in 1964 and started out as the B-side to The Loner, then again to Cinnamon Girl. thus it was a juke box favorite in my part of the world. It never made an album until 1977's Decade. It was regularly part of Neil's repertoire , including Farm Aid in 1995... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-macfL0MdM Similar story here ... Stevie Nicks wrote this one as her version of the break up with Lindsay. It didn't make the cut for Rumours, much to her dismay, but it was released as the B-side of Go Your Own Way, (Lindsay's version of events.) Never the less, it became one of her concert staples, and got considerable airplay on FM. It finally got it's just reward when it was nominated for a Grammy from the live 1997 The Dance album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KWDJkBAzu0 |

I hesitate to think that class racers don't listen to music in the shop or on the road. Maybe they listen to and watch sports? I have a working theory though. Maybe most viewers do so on their phones or while at work..Neither would be conducive to sampling and posting music here. It's really simple..Just copy and paste the YT URL here. Meanwhile, I've got to get back to converting you ,and a few others here with this double play ;-) .. Still trying to figure out who views this thread, without any posts or likes...
I'm going to try a few different genres, just to see what happens ..If you like it...let us know.. This is the original Barbara-Ann, done by the Regents from The Bronx ...named after the lead singer's brand of cigarettes...I've never heard of them, but I quit when I was 14..I started when I was 14 too. I had to laugh at some of the chuckleheads in the YT comments that thought the Beach Boys did the original...even though this version was used in American Graffiti ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTffa6I27iA |

Farewell Commander...
George Frayne AKA Commander Cody has died of cancer. Originally from Boise, then Ann Arbor, and then Berkeley CC fused Rock , Country, and Western Swing in the early 70's ,and opened for The Eagles and many others. Known primarily for his third major incarnation of Hot Rod Lincoln ,from 1955,.he introduced the song to a whole new generation. RIP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSpMGFhtHZ8 |
