Maybe Nhra should rename Stock eliminator to "Bracket Stock Eliminator" ?

Re: Air shifters in stock?

So the “fun” is gone when you don’t push/pull your shifter twice?

If that is true, the easy solution is don’t use an air shifter but I’ll bet most of your competitors will. ;)

Re: Air shifters in stock?

Pro Stock racers were using air shifted transmissions years ago.
It was knocked out by NHRA

Some manual trans comp cars use air shifted 4 and 5 speeds I believe

I personally don't have a problem shifting my car manually but as I said.....
racing 1/8th mile makes it more of a dis-advantage.

If you drive a slow car that does not wheel stand......it's a non issue...

If you choose to race a stick shift car and it's fast, you're already at a big disadvantage....your choice....

Stock eliminator IS BRACKET STOCK.....Sure there are heads up races but it's primarily a dial in with a breakout form of racing.....been that way for years and years....

If you want to win, you use whatever equipment that can help and is allowed.
If you can afford a killer fast driveline so you are the fastest car in the class, it's the same thing.....You bought what can win for you...

No. That is not the answer. This constant dumbing down of Stock Eliminator is, in my opinion, wrecking the class.

The easy solution is to leave the rules alone and quit catering to the weenies of the world. If they need automatic shifting and can't figure it out within the current rules, THEY should do something else....

Ah, yes. They are doing something else and they tell us it's the future of our sport remember?

I can see the future already, tons and tons of Junior dragsters with no gear shifting.. Better get yourself one before you're left out.

As you stated, your opinion. Meanwhile, I’ve spoken to numerous stock eliminator racers whose opinion is changes such as this are welcome and more is needed to save the class. Like it or not. Stock eliminator is bracket stock as Rich has stated.

The big difference in this conversation is that I actually participate in the class....

You know I guy that's been involved in Stock Eliminator for more than 30 years? WOW, that's impressive! I hate there's no trophy for that. An accomplishment like that surely deserves recognition....

Re: Air shifters in stock?

I hate for you that you can’t control the rule changes in stock eliminator. Rule changes that will make the class more competitive and more appealing to racers that show up to win the eliminator!

Re: Air shifters in stock?

Daran, that is quite an accomplishment, and is deserved of a trophy.
Prior to ordering it, I will have to wait for approval from the "King Of
Stock Eliminator." As he seems to have an opinion on all things to do
with our class, the pending insight to this award should be coming
along shortly. In the event that the "King" is not available, I will put
a call into the 'Prince", Glen Cromwell.

Fact is, given our demographic it will be similar to the likes of participation trophies for the entire little league team LOL

Re: Air shifters in stock?

I knew my comment about Bracket Stock would trigger negative responses.
Heads up runs, flat out are still fun to watch or be part of.
I’d probably use the E-shift if the controllers were still available
I owned this car from 2005 to 2007 and manually shifted it without any problem
Back then there was no 1/8 mile racing even locally at bracket events.
I never raced the car at anything but NHRA events or just a T&T
The air shifter I use was strictly for local 1/8 mile bracket events which now are what I can get to easily at NJ’s only remaining drag strip
Not for nuthin but I’ve raced Mid 7 second dragsters to 14 second Jr Stockers and all kinds of cars in between.
Stock and Super Stock included
I’m using anything that will help me win a round or a race that’s legal.
Raced on a blue collar budget for over 50 years and don’t think any of the things now accepted in Stock is ruining anything.
Stock hasn’t been anything like it once, was for years.
It’s still a good category to race in and I decided to end my racing where I started in 1966
Race what you like and when and where and how you like.
That’s what I’m doing
