Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
It's been quite a while since I've covered a race and had a chance to listen to conversations in the tower and in staging/starting line areas. I saw this situation maybe 5 or 6 times during all the races I covered.
Different staff back then, but I always heard the same thing - "If you don't want to race, fine. Don't race. There are plenty others who will be happy to take your place." I firmly believe the NHRA has changed for the worse in the things they believed important, but this is not a recent thing. It should have been solved somehow years ago. As for the Greg Anderson complaint, I seem to remember it was at Columbus about a very suspect left lane. He got the standard reply until one car ended up on its roof, a couple of others had near misses before anything was done. |

Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
We are done for the day, racing resumes tomorrow. I have mix feelings today about track conditions. They worked on the all morning and into the afternoon. After the Juniors ran, they worked on the track for a good 45 minutes. Dragging and spraying the track. I had my best 60ft of the weekend and the racers I talked to said it was better. The questions is... if they could make the track better today, why couldn't they do it yesterday. Anyway, thanks to the crew for todays track prep.

$2000 fine is cheaper than trying to replace a 75k stocker. Or we can just complain more that seems to be working. NHRA could give two ****s what we think! Stick together and stuff gets done, one person can't change anything. What if everyone would have loaded there cars up and left??? Just more reasons we need to support races like Tyler's, Kens, Bo's,etc |

when the racers rolled in on Thurs & Friday and payed already. Probably have to pay online when you enter at some divisional’s too. |
Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
That's kind of my point if they keep getting there money why would they change anything. I don't know what the answer is ,but it sure sounds like there is a lot of unhappy people at the races.

Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
2024 rulebook might say stock spec tire size is 275 60 15 drag radials and super stock on 33 12.50 15 mud terrain LT radials. Sounds like that's what they are prepping the track for.

Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
Good morning everyone, start time is 9:30... Junior's out first followed by Super Street and Stock for their 3rd round. Its cold this morning, current temp is 43, and only going up to the low 50's. I'm hitting the road today, I do have some more photos and will post when I get home. Its been a long 3 weeks on the road... good times posting for you all. Next race is the NMCA at Rockingham, NC April 14th-16th.

Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
May do the Rockingham race as well instead of Reynolds the following weekend. Will be interesting to see how the new surface works out and if enough people skip Reynolds then it might serve as a message to NHRA. Depends on weather to some extent, probably a factor in why more didn’t attend SGMP including myself.

Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
My G/SA Corvette usually hooks on ice and never spun all weekend. That said It picked up .04 in 60’ after they prepped the track. Needless to say I missed the dial. Mike McMahan 2543 G/SA

Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
Thanks again Ken for all you do to keep us all informed about the races you attend.
Kudos to SGMP for addressing the traction problem at their track. It was a little late for some, but they listened to the comments and addressed the problem on Saturday and today. |

I had the same issue as you round one. Sorry you had a bad experience here in D2. I have been racing D2 for a long time and I can count on one hand the amount of times I have had traction problems at a D2 division race in recent years. . I don’t think it is a sign of the times. I don’t know if most know that SGMP is in the process of being sold so that could have had something to do with the lack of track prep. When I staged during round one I did not see any visible issues with the track. I was surprised when I spun and was a tenth off on my 60 ft time. |
Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
Am I missing something, but Marion Stevenson had a bye run in the 4th rd and then another bye in the semifinals. How is that possible and why doesn't the ladder get corrected so that there aren't any double byes? I have nothing against Marion, he's just racing the way NHRA tells him to.

Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
I believe if you are #1 qualifier you could get two byes if there is say a 33 car field, it would go 33,17,9,5,3. Tom

First time I saw this was at the Indy Open about 25 years ago. I thought no, this can't be right...but it was. There are only 4 earned byes in a 7 round race. Then, it goes back to the no. 1 car position again, if the numbers are right, contrary to what some believe. |
Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
Looking for some varification.
The 71 Challenger that says Motown Missile - Gregg Luneack's old car correct. The Black and White 70 GTX w/ graphics - Mike Loge's old car correct. Thanks in advance. |
Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
Correct on both Ron….and both in good hands.

Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
Good to know that both cars are in good hands. Thanks Jim.

Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
Our great friend Wes Leopold Jr. won Competition Eliminator at SGMP this past weekend for his second win of this season, however the car was very badly damaged after passing the finish line at 164.55 MPH. The good news is after being cut from the car, taken to the hospital and released he's fine and on his way home to Pittsburgh.
God Bless! |
Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
Frank, Thanks for the update, I was wondering if he was okay and I hadn't seen anything. So glad all is well.

Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
Saw on insidecompracing.com that he suffered a broken collar bone. He’s been putting together a great season so hope he can get healed and be able to repair the car. Great running car, just glad he wasn’t hurt worse.

Re: "Live From" SGMP D2 LODRS
I think it was 1995 At Bristol I had first round bye for number 1 qualifier and then I had another bye in the semifinals I can’t remember how many cars. So I ran Jim Reynolds in the final and won but dropped a valve at the finish line. Had to be towed to scales and winners circle. Was just my day I guess.
