You know Ed, I think you need a vacation from New Jersey, I think being that close to Snookie has warped your mind...or maybe it's that blowhard governor of yours who's good at tough talking, but given the state of your states economy, his actions have shown me "Jack Squat"....I guess you two are meant to be neighbors. Oh, and as for my (as you called it) "rocket car" (I never said that, but given your also being a neighbor to that other blowhard Rush), I'll have you know that I won my first race of the year (even though it was an import theme'd race), the bracket final was an ALL-AMERICAN shootout between my Chevy, and a Dodge Neon SRT!

I wasn't going to talk about it here, but since you had to go there, now I can ask you...what's your Gremlin done lately? I don't talk crap about your car like you seem to love doing to mine (I actually like seeing something else against the norm out there), but you keep hurling insults at mine and just know this....what you sew, so shall you reap!!!

Gary, you silly little boy.I don't mhave to come on here and constantly babble about my car
like some people we know. And by the way the car isn't mine anymore. The new owner will show you what it's got.
How can you not make fun of an 80s tin can?
And our governor is doing OK,in spiteof the opposition from your socialist democrat friends who keep trying to throw road blocks in the path to fiscal responsibility.
Good bye Gary and good luck babbling on.
And that hat would be fitting for your slow crawl down your lane, but keep an eye in your rearview.

I'm gritting my teeth as I type because this has turned political and I don't want to agree with a socialist...LOL..but strictly helmet talk, I agree with Gary. Not that he's right or wrong, I just agree a 15 sec car doesn't need a full sa helmet.

As far as faster cars goes, your going to be stuffing the backend of a slow car in, so wouldn't a higher priority be seatbacks that won't break and fuel cells that won't explode when stuffed up to the rear window? To me, if safety (with regards to the speed differential) is the focus, then protecting rearends of slow cars should be priority as opposed to the difference in open/closed faced helmets.

The other argument is a 15 sec car stuffing into a wall on it's own. Yes in some instances a fullface might help, but not all. A fullface won't protect your windpipe from being crushed by a steering wheel any more than an open face will.
What is the official "crush speed"? And what type of car? If a car will only be going max 80-90mph, is it ok if it's a 65 wagon with lots of crush space but not ok if it's a fwd tin can with no crush space? How about a car with a large interior as opposed to a tight interior?

Somebody came up with a rule that says "up to xx speed or xx ET you must have this" I'll go by that. The option is always there to step up if I want, but that is the minimum.

I'll bet it is, and I look forward to the opportunity of doing so, when I get to more sea level tracks where they'd run that quick. I guess there were maybe one or a few that ran that quick here, but I'd have to check out the national event we had here to see....still not as many as you'd get out there....

I've got an idea how about all those folks that think there OK with the absolute minimum safety equipment, may be they could just get by with a stocking cap with a chin strap to keep the mush together so there will be less down time when there cleaning up after the wreck, also could also help the gene pool in the long run, witch would fix alot of other problems we currently have!!!!

the line has been drawn in the rule book an I for one won't lose a moments sleep if the op ends up in a bag or brain dead because he is out to prove he is smarter than the "stupid rules maklers" NHRA, SFI and most of his competitors buying a helmet that cost less than $11!

i guess i didn't get the part about him being smarter (or i didn't read it that way) BUT, it sounds like he's a better shopper than most of us..

ASSUMING it's not a knock-off helmet.

Re: Poll Do you use a SA or M rated helmet?

It doesn't cost that much more to get a good helmet; we don't need expensive carbon fiber etc. just an SA rated full face helmet to get as good a protection as is available for the most important body part. If NHRA wants to help us save money, how about recognizing that seat belts last longer than two years?

Hey 1320,
Have you noticed that according to the poll the full face SA helmet wearing group is the minority?

As Ed would say, Have a nice day.

Re: Poll Do you use a SA or M rated helmet?

what school did you go to?

SA rated full face 62 43.66%
M rated full face 19 13.38%
SA rated open face 40 28.17%
M rated open face 23 16.20%

Last I knew, 62 users/43.66% is the MAJORITY of those who replied to your poll and what I do know is that YOU are in the minority of those that think a $10 helmet bought off flea bay is as good as a Bell, Simpson, Impact no mind stupid enough to wear it while drag racing.

I didn't go to school in Jersey, 43.66% is less than half smart guy.

Next question for ya. Do you think it's more or less likely that the chinese would copy one of their own cheap helmets and sell it for 10 bucks or a high dollar Bell, Simpson, or Impact? The odds are that you're the one wearing a fake.
How's that make you feel?

Actually, a majority is more than half of the votes and a plurality is the greatest number of votes but less than half.

You could say that a majority (71%) wear SA rated helmets and a plurality (43%) wear full face SA rated helmets. :)

Toby KNOWS!;)

Meanwhile 1 knucklehead boasts of his fleabay deal buying a M rated helmet of unknown origin and condition for $10.50!

Phillip, it doesn't matter where or if you went to school, no school teaches common sense.:p All I know is this, a number of your threads are about you complaining about something, complaining about someone, complaining how much something costs or how you got screwed. It's obvious you're in over your head and can't afford to compete at the level you are no mind at the level your competitors are. NO ONE but you is boosting about showing the "stupid rule makers". What you're showing is no respect for the sanctioning body, SFI, your competitors and your ignorance! I suspect if you're buying a $10 helmet off flea bay to protect the space between your ears, you have the same attitude and approach with other safety requirements on your car.

Phillip marvetz 03-11-2012 12:04 PM

Re: Poll Do you use a SA or M rated helmet?

Toby, I think you beat 1320 to that one, lol.
That is of course a correct statement also but since a few of these guy's have stated that the only way to be safe is to be wearing a full face SA helmet I wanted to point out that more than half of us are not. Are they right? YES. Are the rest of us wrong? NO. We make our choices and move on.

Next question for you guy's, Which would you consider safer? A M rated full face or a SA rated open face?

P.S 1320, I actually have a class legal racecar and race it. You on the other hand just troll around here telling us all how great you are with your bracket car. At least you haven't posted anymore of your stupid pictures this week.

I have NO intention of ever fielding a super stock combo, makes no financial sense.

With the cost to field a new super stocker at 150 large, the travel, time off from work and the pennies for payout, you won't see me anytime soon.

So which is it? Have you ever competed at a Divisional or National event with it? Or is it just a dream.................

This from a guy who yesterday claimed to be "waiting on a phone call" so he could buy and campaign a new $100K COPO car.

If you have to pay $150K to go Super Stock racing, you're buying everything done. And trying to see just how much you can spend.

alan, here's another news flash, the phones are ringing off the wall at B&B, MPR, East Texas and others, who build $100,000 rollers for Super Stock as well over at Tilberg, Gulius, Watters waiting in line for their $30,000 engines as well over at Rossler and McClay for one of their $5,000 transmissions.

I have followed this discussion because it is an interesting debate, or it was, but when price was brought up I thought about these helmets. If price dictated which is best this should be the safest helmet made.

I use a SA2005 full face Simpson....and I don't even race. :p

FIA stuff is good, but unfortunately not allowed in NHRA. Had to confiscate a brand new pair of FIA gloves at Orlando from a racer. He had to come back & show SFI gloves. Yep. He got the FIA gloves returned to him at the end of the event.
