Re: Petition for Increased NHRA Sportsman Coverage on ESPN
Mr. Fazio,,,, I'm curious, would this be an NHRA decision or an ESPN decision? Theres probably a program director somewhere who decides what gets on and what doesn't.
Just thinking out loud,,,, I'm so tired of seeing alcohol cars too. Good luck with this. Danny Durham |
Re: Petition for Increased NHRA Sportsman Coverage on ESPN
I was always under the impression that NHRA decided but I just wrote ESPN and asked them so we will see what they say. Maybe someone else has the answer to this question.

Re: Petition for Increased NHRA Sportsman Coverage on ESPN
We must be headed in the right direction.. Phil Burgess wrote in today's issue of ND that there will be increased coverage for sportsman in all the National Dragsters this year. We are at 480 signatures but still a ways to go. Hopefully it doesn't die down, make it your facebook status! I mean come on it's a Monday in February, there can't be anything else too exciting to put as your status, everyone already knows the daytona 500 is on so that's no excuse! :o

Re: Petition for Increased NHRA Sportsman Coverage on ESPN
Well Bobby, I guess I'm #481, because I just added my name to the list, and I have several drag racing friends on fb., who'll see your post and my adlib to it. I sure feel better about your letter, and this website getting out a message that I tried back in the early-mid '00's with little to no fan-fare from either NHRA, or ESPN. A great start should also include bringing back the show "Inside Drag Racing", that they aired back in '06?
Are you reading this ESPN? I think there's plenty of support here for "ALL OF THE ABOVE"!!!! |

Re: Petition for Increased NHRA Sportsman Coverage on ESPN
"Dear Robert,
Thanks for contacting ESPN. ESPN makes its programming decisions based on a number of factors, including viewership, as reflected by ratings and the interest from advertisers and affiliates, on a nationwide basis. We appreciate you taking the time to write and have shared your comments with with ESPN's NHRA producers. Sincerely, Candice ESPN Viewer Response" |

It's still here, and I've heard from ESPN once already. They need to see more support than just 551 people. They showed a little increased sportsman coverage at Vegas and Gainesville earlier in the year but not enough viewer numbers so they went back to the old sportsman show. Come on it takes 2 seconds to sign and you won't get junk email. Don't be that guy who likes to hear himself complain, make a difference instead. Another thing, no alcohol cars means absolutely no coverage and that, my friends, is BS! |

As a dedicated Sportsman racer, I can't even watch the coverage as presently presented. Same cars, same commentaries. "Wide World of Sports" had good Sportsman Drag Racing coverage and I think viewership was respectable. In fact, it's still on YouTube 30+ years later! "Pinks" was successful with a bunch of no-names because there was a small back story and the editing brought excitement to the screen. Thanks you for your considerations! |
Re: Petition for Increased NHRA Sportsman Coverage on ESPN

Iam not a racer but ido follow stock and super stock racing and have been for a long time.Sportsman racers make up a large portion of NHRA events and thay need to be in the spot light to. May be thay can get some coverage at the U.S.Nationals!:):) |
Re: Petition for Increased NHRA Sportsman Coverage on ESPN
You need to petition NHRA because they buy the time from Espn. Espn doesn't decide what goes on the air.
