Interesting how it appears, based upon the above-data, that the stick-shift cars had the upper hand back then.

I also think it's funny that a good running F/SA car of today could have set the A/SA record in 1988. LOL

My three were so long ago they don't matter. All between 1969 & 1975. All same car, 1956 Chevy. N/S twice, then the once in the SS class it fit after NHRA did away with Stock Eliminator. Don't remember the SS class designation. Have to dig that info up.

30 NHRA , 2 IHRA , set at Englishtown, New England Dragway, US13 , Coastal Plains , Sanair , Maple Grove, Suffolk , Atco , Lebanon Valley,and Cecil County. 1981 - current

Most fun was when a bunch of records were set, seeing who could be the first one back together and running. Teardown at the farm at Maple Grove was a contest.

Lotsa gaskets , Lotsa fun and challenges, still happy to be enjoying the ride.

I think we set or held records from 2003 up til just a couple years ago. Quit bothering a year or so after they quit awarding points for Records. That and one time they published "Photo Unavailable" for a record in the magazine, despite there being a kazillion pics of the Volare on file.

An always fun day was watching Red and Scooter both set the record in the same class on the same day. I think once each had it 3 times before the sun set. That was good racing. Both Super Stock Stick Shifts (say it slow). Clutches got a workout on those days.

We held the SS/K record, on and off, from 1979 to 1983, until we installed the 327 in the car. We then held the SS/H record for a couple of years, until we sold the car to Ken Preston, he then held the record for awhile. I believe we were the first Super Stock 283 engine to go in the 10's. It went 10.92 at Greenvalley Texas, early in 1980. We also won Super Stock at the Mile High Nationals, in 1979 and 1980. Eddie Rezac & Sons, [Tim, & Todd]

I understand...I could have easily set the D/S record with my AMX as it was running 10.50s to 10.60's. But NHRA had an 11 month then back to minimum policy at the time. I thought that was BS as that's a lot of work to go back to minimum soon thereafter. Now if somebody could take it from me, that's another story.

Re: National Record Holders

First records set were 5/27/07 in F/CM at US 131 @ 10.8289 at 120.26mph. Currently hold F/CM at 10.776 at 121.06 and H/CM at 10.968 at 118.52 all in my 69 Camaro. While setting the six total records I had two things in common, the first was it was the hottest and most humid day of the summer and the second was, friend and fellow drag racer Don Holben was there to help me reassemble the parts each time. I like the way IHRA tells you to show up with the engine apart a day early. They check it, and you reassemble it in front of them, they seal it, and make your two runs. I am planning on set two more records this year and then turn the driving of my 69 stocker over to Brad Z. I want to focus on drag racing my other cars and also my pursuit of 200 MPH at the Bonneville Salt Flats in my 99 Camaro.

In oct. 2008 at the div. 4 race in Noble,Ok, we qualified #2. Later, same weedend, Wesley came up to me in the staging lanes and told me a number of people had approaced him and were saying I was not "legit". Went to the nat open in Kansas City later same month and set the D stick et record at 10.54. Duzac held it before me and he later took it back. Set my first record in SS/G 10.51 @ no mph 1983 @ Green Valley 428cj dish top w/heavy valves, same combo I run today, in my 68 Fastback Mustang.
Built my 69 coupe in 85. Won class at the Indy first race out.
Set first record with 69 in SS/H in 86 10.35@ 128.75.
SS/H 10.31@128.88 at Ennis, TX, 87
SS/H 10.24@131.00 atBaton Rouge,88
SS/G 1/8 mi 6.28@ 108.00, Houston,89
Was the first SS/G car to run in the 9's Dec. 89 9.90@ 134.76 Ennis Winter Series.
SS/G 10.10@ 131.57 Baton Rouge,90
SS/H 10.19@ 131.11 Houston Aug,90 I remember it was 98deg and only record set that day.
SS/G 9.48@ 140.53 Noble 09
and current SS/F 9.29@ 143.63 Noble, 11
Guess that will be all with the new rules not allowing for sub 1 sec runs with out getting your combo hit.Doesn't make sence anymore.

While digging through my archives last night in search of a specific 1999 Mopar Action, didn't I see your national record setting under 5K shadow(I think), featured in one of the magazines from a era back in the roaring 90's. Looks like it could be competitive today.

It counts too!

Not sure How many, all together around 35 or so.
1976 to 1983 B/SA NHRA & IHRA a number of times (TK Power)
Artie and Ray would set it then I would reset it.. lol
Then came Super Stock,,, 427/430 (Bill Dejohn & Mike Keown Power)
SS/CA a few times then I ran into Butch Williams and Mike Heintz,,
I would set it and they would take it back.....I learned my 427 couldn't run with that 454 , lol
In 1989 or so I had MPR build me another Corvette,, BIG RED
this one for ss/ea an ss/fa 454/390 ( Tom Boucher power)
Then I ran into this Leon guy,,and buddy it was on ! (lol)
In the mist of all this Butch and I had words !
I had Matt Carifello/TK Build me another CA motor,,,
reset the CA record in March that year,,sold it to Dave Thomas and went back to the
454/390 . I have to say over the year's I had more fun and made alot of friends
that I'll never forget...............
