2. To race my car (see #1).

That's it. Imho, nhra is the one who caused this problem. As somebody else mentioned, they park us sometimes literally more than a mile away from the starting line and where all the vendors / utilities / officials, etc. Are located. Maybe instead of restricting what the racers can do, maybe we could restrict what the fans do. There's a novel idea, huh?

Rather than making the pits one big freaking free-for-all, how about painting some lines on the freaking ground telling fans, "walk here", and "no admittance", like on the return road. I'm not saying you need to remove fans from the pits completely, but how about just a few restrictions for them? I realize that one of the draws for fans to nhra races is the unrestricted access to the pits, but maybe the other racing bodies (i.e. Nascar, indycar, etc.) got it right. Their competitors don't have to deal with the clusterfornicate that we do that is called trying to get around the pit areas without killing somebody.

Plus, i ask you, how am i supposed to go get 5 gallons of fuel or water for my race car on a bicycle? I would have to guess that riding my atv responsibly with a 5 gallon jug of liquid is safer than trying to ride a bike doing the same thing.

Put some signs up, paint some lines on the ground, and put a rent-a-cop or two in strategic locations to keep fans from going in those dangerous areas (e.g. The return road where the fuelers are returning from their run at 50 mph), and we can probably avoid this situation altogether. My guess is that even the pros would appreciate this.

Nhra can suck it.

last time i did run super comp it was at maple grove. I was trying to get to the staging lanes when a so called fan was back up with his camera to his face. Never saw me then he fell over the front of my car. Where was nhra for me? Oh thats right i was trying to get to the staging lanes i was in the wrong.

Yeah, it's much better to let the drunks wander around the pits than to give them a ride back to the motorhome so they can safely sleep it off! Jim

pretty sure bicycles count ... they make you register it and have a decal on it it counts... so be ready to get fined on your bicycle too...

im sure they need some $$$$$$$$ to defend against these horrific accusations with the IRS... therefore THERE WILL BE FINES, lots of them, so keep you golf cart at home and your ticket in your pocket cause they need $$$$$ and we are thier best source of $$$$$$$

still sore over a $500 ticket fine 2 years ago cause my buddy picked up the wrong ticket at 6am and was headed for a port-a-can...

This rule is at least two years old, are you guys just figuring it out now?

Yes it is ridiculous. I haven't been to very many nationals, but the few I have, were all under this stupid rule.

I rode a bicycle from the fan parking everyday because you only get one pit parking sticker, and my dad gets the pit parking pas. I did not put my one pit vehicle sticker on the bike, and I did not have insurance. I entered through the racer gate every morning and left every evening, nobody bothered me. While in the pits I had a borrowed pit bike with the pit vehicle sticker, and no insurance. I did use it for some 'joyriding' so to speak. Nobody bothered me. This was in Seattle.

I also had a similar experience in Pomona.

So while it is dumb, it's not very well enforced.

Last year at Topeka NHRA impounded all the pit vehicles they could find without stickers on them in the staging lanes.
Several people thought theirs had been stolen only to find they were impounded.
To get the pit vehicle back you had to show up with a sticker or pay a fine.
My friends wife who had driven the golf cart to the staging lanes had to walk back to the trailer. He had the sticker but did not put it on the golf cart. He was in trouble with more than just NHRA, but did get the golf cart back by showing up with the sticker.
It was funny but not really, if you have been to Topeka and know how far the staging lanes are from the Sportsman parking lot.

This lady is really thin and in her mid 60's.
She was also hot in two different ways when she arrived back at the trailer.
A bottle of water only cooled her down in one of those two ways.
Like I said it was funny but not really and NO ONE Laughed especially her husband.

Jim, Sean & 63 Corvette... just goes to show what happens when COMMON SENSE isn't used. NHRA could have made all of these situations a non-event for the racers involved, and solved their issues with the non-compliance with a few announcements from the tower (but wait.... they wouldn't have collected any FINES). When will NHRA learn that this kinda heavy-handed "enforcement" doesn't solve anything, it just creates a confrontational atmosphere between racer and sanctioning body.
