Best thing about Tommy Ivo is those were his design and built by him(I'm sure others helped) I remember the photos from Hot Rod when they had him as the front page Hook. This is what would be my ultimate race car hauler.

Re: Best truck, motorhome and trailer pictures

I snuck a look at RJ at the toters, haulers and motorhomes...........where in the H*LL do you guys get that kind of money! 300k for a hauler? I could race the rest of my life for that kind of dough.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to rigs like those but 300k will get you a nice truck and trailer and you could stay in the best hotel in town....maybe even the Bridal suite!

It all looked so fancy that I went outside and set fire to my lowly dually and 28 ft. trailer......now I won't be so embarrassed.....lol!

I dont have any pictures thank god but my first tow rig was a 4cyl 5spd ford ranger and a homemade trailer..it was built by a circle track guy by screwing galvanized pipe together and then welding some thin steel on top for the car to sit on. I actually drove to albany ny with this from florida and towed a tube chassis car home..in 2 days up and back!! Young and dumb(or is it fearless)

Re: Best truck, motorhome and trailer pictures

One of the best combination I've seen in the past was Carl Brucher's from Pennsylvania, he hauled his Altered with a 69 LTD with single axle trailer with a front tool box. He travelled all around Div 1 with this set up which was well balanced and econimical for him.You don't need a huge set-up(nice to have it when you need to change a transmission). Whatever gets you to the race track. Just nice to see the engineering that some people will use to help solve a problem of transportation. CR

You could probably consider my set up as state of the art.Circa 1975.But it works for me.
And one advantage is that at some tracks I can get a primo parking spot due to the
smallness of my setup.I also can save a spot for a friend with an open trailer and suburban by side parking the gremlin till he gets there and then we both work off the back of our trailers, all without hogging an extra spot.

Ed, this is exactly what I am looking to do. What size trailer do you have axels etc? Also, where is your water tank for your sink and where do you carry your bed?, in the back of your truck? I like the use of the space. Sure beats my open trailer. Thanks.

I forgot to add one of the drawbacks of leaving the car out overnight. It opens a door for any "creative" artisans. This one gets an "A" for creativity.

Ed by the way nice to see that drag racing isn't your only hobby, great pictures from Cecil Dragway. Quite funny, did a Gremlin do this to your Gremlin.

Robert,It's an 18" Cargo Mate trailer. It originally had barn doors.I built a ramp door from scratch in 2004.It has 3500# axles. The 8 gal water tank and pump is under the sink, with a diverter valve to pump water to a hose with a kitchen sink sprayer. That and a clothes washer pan with a drain and curtain is my shower setup.
The bed is suspended by an E track with brackets to hold a 2X4 frame, folding plywood
base and air matress and sleeping bag.I slso have an Etrack setup to move the brackets, frame and matress and sleeping bag to the front, over the hood of the car.
I sleep up there when I get to a track and park outside of the gate. It's a bit tight with the moped in front of the car.Sometimes I take the moped and leave it outside, usuaaly when I'm not going to sleep right away.
I can post more pics if you need any further info.
All in all it works for me.
You might want to see how I tie the car down in the trailer also.Just ask.

I appreciate the info. Yes, I would like to see more pictures of your set up. It is very creative and well thought out. How do you set up the shower again? Do you have warm water?

The water in the tank stays warm enough to use as is,in the warm months.Otherwise I have a small 110 volt flow through water heater that mounts to the door on the sink enclosure for the cooler weather.
I'll get some pics to you when I get a chance.

Finally with the moped inside it's a bit tight, but only for the first night,if I don't get in the gate.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...5/IMG_0130.jpg

And here's how I keep the car from up and down movement on the go.I have the tiedown going over the energy absorbing pistons and a block of wood under the crossmember. In the back I use two jack stands on the frame and tiedown over the pistons. The trailer is more stable and the shocks and suspension doesn't take a beating.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...5/IMG_0129.jpg

Sorry for the sideways pics.I'm still learning.

WOW Tom, I haven't looked that good in years !!!!!

It looks like 2001, at Indy, when i had just picked up me new trailer from T & E. In 2004 I took it back there and finished it out with the complete interior. Damn, I love that thing, and I've continued to put more 'bells and whistles' into it since then. FYI, the gen has low hours, LOL. (Burger)

Re: Best truck, motorhome and trailer pictures

ok here is what a 18 year old kid does when getting out of school, building his own race car and needing a tow rig, not having a "Silver spoon" to fall back on to buy a rig more then my current house, like some new kids coming into racing. I bought a 3/4 ton chevy pickup from Larry Buckingham (btw, Ive bought just about every car I've ever owned off of him) at "Clucker Jungle" at Grahams Chevrolet. Took the rusted up pickup bed off of it and built a hauler bed for it. Then a few years later, cut the truck's frame rails behind the cab, added another drive shaft and stretched it to ad a sleeper. The truck got 20 miles to a gallon and if anybody remembers me back then I did a lot of traveling with this rig. I used it from 1979 to 1986.
