Re: Carolina Class Racers Association

If you'll let us Yankees in, my wife and I would love to join you from Ohio. After having towed from Maple Grove to Vegas and Brainerd to Gainesville last year, North Carolina looks pretty good. Sounds like alot of fun without being "enhanced". We aren't crazy about "alphabet cars" but that's okay we run sone IHRA up here. The only suggestion I would like to make is - keep the heads up runs in. After all - heads up is what class racing is supposed to be about. The north/south thing sounds fun and I'll bet you'd get a good turnout. Just one thing - could you get West Virginia to smooth out the turnpike between Charleston and Beckley? Keep us posted - we are working on next year's schedule. Larry & Lisa Buckingham SS/GT

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association

Ron, that is something that we will hopefully be able to do at some point. It will depend on the track we are running at, if they have a two day event we could possibly include our program. However, they couldn't run a race based on stock/super stock alone unless they were having a test'n tune or another event on Sunday. Definitely something that will be considered.
Larry, I hear you on the turn pike deal...traveled it a couple of weekends ago and we'll get to work on that right away! As for yankees coming down, we love for you to come down and spend money, look forward to having you.The heads up deal will be discussed at our January meeting and we'll keep you posted via the message board and hopefully a website down the road.

UPDATE, guys go to your engine builders and ask them to sponsor an event for CCRA, it is very affordable and our website will be up in 3 weeks or so and the exposure on here will be worth 10x what they will pay. I had one NC engine builder tell me he is in. Just some fine details to work out. This Association has no operating expenses so anything broght in gets paid to the racers in a points fund or race purse. Tracy and myself have decided if we have an overage we will keep a certain dollar to roll over to 2010 after this year. All this will be discussed the 2nd Saturday of January at The Cutting Board in Burlington NC.

First year in a stocker and Helsel is already talkin' smack!!! I know what it is you just want to run the local duck (me) first round...right? That may be a good race to tie into your north/south big dog event Herb.

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association

I am not sure about the duck, I hear you're pretty good...lol. I am in for the North/South race. I can be the bad guy...lol...the kid who left Fayettville,NC to move to the big city life in Maryland (that's where I learned my smack talkin) .....lol

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association

sometimes...we are for the north
sometimes...we are for the south
We are in the unique postition of capitalizing on what best serves our interest!

We did have the first soldier killed ( T. Bailey Brown) as well as the first land battle of the Civil War (Philippi) right in the area of home.
But that was when we were still part of Virginia.

now 90% of the country refers to us as "Western" Virginia.

If I lived closer to Beckley or Lewisburg, I might say I am from the south, but it is about a 6 hour tow to Piedmont for me, so I would probably call that North for arguements sake.

I just joined a similar asc. in Florida this month, Jim Wood is the pres. Jim Wahl is the vice pres. Asc. name is SSSSA. I would suggest contacting one of them and picking there brains. I look forward to racing with these guys and girls this year. I have only met two guys from SSSSA and they are tops! I just met Scott Helms this weekend, one of the nicest guys I have met in drag racing. George R. out of div. 3 is a great guy too. I met, I think his first name is Todd, Todd Ward, hell of a nice guy, Mopar man from way back as I understand. Anyway back to the main subject, from reading these posts it looks like you all got a good thing going. I might have to sneek up there and race at one or two events. If anybody has anymore info, email me at racerrick2881@yahoo.com . STOCKERS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rick.

Ok guys sorry about not being online but I havent had internet at my house since last week. I had something come up Saturday I cant get out of. I have tried over and over to get out of it and just cant. I can do it in 2 weeks on January 24th at lunch. I'm sorry about this and I want this deal to work. We have Piedmont committed for 4 races as well as Roxboro for 4. I feel the racers should have a vote in the other 3 races and how they are done. I have spoken with Tracy at lenghth and we are on the same page about 99% of the stuff that is going on but we feel everyone should be a part of it. Again I'm very sorry about this and if anyone would like to email me I dont have my piedmont email anymore.

8-11 races sounds really good. What other tracks are possibilities? Pageland Dragway is very welcoming to S/SS racers. Easy to get to from Piedmont, too (I ran at Piedmont and Pageland both in the same day before!) I can talk to the owner if y'all want. I'd love to race at Fayetteville, too... amazingly, I haven't had a chance to race there yet!

Cliff porterfield 01-07-2009 09:30 PM

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association

Micheal, I think right now the only two tracks having CCRA points events are Piedmont and Roxboro. The other three races Herb is referring to are divisional saturday night combo's. These are just to accumulate points, there should be no CCRA entry fees at the divisionals. I am sure Herb and Tracey want to take 2009 to try to grow the series and keep it economical for all (travel wise) before adding more tracks. The S/SS classes at both tracks were pretty strong the past few years they think combining the two programs will benefit everyone.

Michael Beard 01-07-2009 10:21 PM

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association

Oh, that's right. Herb did tell me about that awhile back, just forgot. I think that's a great idea to make the Saturday night combos at some Pro-Ams eligible for CCRA points. Gives us an extra incentive to get into those races, and allows a lot more people to participate by getting some points claims in.

$.02,

Tracy Robbins 01-07-2009 11:09 PM

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association

Cliff is Dead on w/ a Zero! What we do not want is another divisional schedule to run, just a points fund and Saturday night races at a couple of tracks.

Re: Carolina Class Racers Association

Any new news on the meeting? Are we still having a meeting on January 24 at the Cutting Board in Burlington? Hey Herb, do we have a room reserved? I'm getting a lot of questions from fellow racers.
