Re: "Live" from Indy!

I've just sent the revised Round 1 info. Larry Hill was DQ'd for the event but I have not been able to find out what the reason was.

Lots of fast cars and a lot more breakage than I'm used to.

OK, here's the info as I edit my original message. Though I was originally told that it was an event DQ, it turns out that only his last pass was thrown out due to weight. That has the effect of him being outside the qualified field.

Sometimes the staff don't use their words correctly and we get this sort of confusion. Sorry for the original, incorrect information.

Updated posts are on their way up to DRC. By the way, thanks to all of you who read the site.

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Just spoke with Mom and Dad, and we lost first round of class as we were too light at the scales by 10 pounds.

I believe DRC is misinformed about us being disqualified for the event. We were just light for 1st round of class, though we won't make the field unless 30+ cars are bounced in tech after class.

You treed me, Chris. Once again, sorry for the misinformation but it's exactly what I was told the first time I asked.

Re: "Live" from Indy!

No problem Dan.

I know all of us GREATLY appreciate the time and effort you and DRC put forth to give us the qualifying and class results round by round.

BTW, the pink car Dad is driving used to be yellow and black. It just took almost 6 years to get it painted and reassembled.

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Ryan,
About that pink firebird, I don't think it will happen. Unless, science proves that pink is the fastest color. Then, maybe.

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Chris,
on one listing it had your dad running a cuda in a-sa ,what was that your new car that did or didn't run?

Chris Hill 08-28-2008 02:18 PM

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Tom,

Dad is running the 71 'cuda that we've been running for over 25 years. It has the 440 six pac and is running A/SA with it. Per DRC, he went a 10.29 first round of class 10 pounds light on the second run on the car since it was painted and reassembled. It is now painted panther pink with an "AAR" stripe on the car.

Larry Hill 08-28-2008 03:52 PM

Re: "Live" from Indy!

First of all, thanks to Chris for giving you updates for us. So here is the lowdown. We finally got loaded up around 6 last night and headed to St. Louis to test since we wanted a run on the new car before Indy. Got there 10 minutes after tech closed and they wouldn't let us run although we were there for about 45 minutes and they were still running cars down the track when we left. So we drive on to Indy and get here about 3 am. Slept til 6:15, then got ready to get parked. We were at the main entrance with the pros, so we got out of line and drove in Gate 8, got parked, unloaded, and teched and ran 1st round this morning. For the 1st pass on the car in 6 years, it ran pretty well -.72, but not good enough to get in the show. So he gets everything ready to run class within the hour. He was 65 pounds on that run so he took weight out to ( he thought) 10 pounds over minimum. But being tired and rushed, he made a mistake and took out too much. So our 1st round class win was DQ'd. So now only 30 cars have to be thrown out for us to get in the show.

Interesting thing seen in the pits before class: a California car putting dry ice on the manifold. ?????

Haven't talked to anyone much yet, We have been pretty busy.

Did go by and talk to Rick and Roz Gresens about our steak dinner. Rick and Larry had a bet for the last 4 years or so as to who would get their car back up and running sooner. And we won. Rick's C/S Mustang still isn't out.
My connection keeps going away, so more later.

Patsy -- Almost a Cinderella story -- after a six year thrash you and Larry have nothing to be ashamed of -- go get that steak dinner tonight and hold your heads up high ...............And BTW , keep on with your great reports ! ! !

PS -- Another thing -- your safe with that Panther Pink deal -- we won't be coloring any of our Pontiacs in that hue........I'll leave it to the 70's Mopar's and AMC 's . Cute though ........

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Anyone have any idea what happened to Ronnie West? DRC shows him as winning his first round class matchup against Keith Lynch but he is conspicuously absent from the 2nd round of class. I'd thought he was going to win it...

Tom P 08-28-2008 05:06 PM

Re: "Live" from Indy!

See the Abbazia and Duzac matchup in Rd 2? It looks like a dead heat, gave up .104 on the tree and ran .104 quicker.

The air must be getting even worse everybody seems to be slowing. Hope that improves for the Hemi and Thunderbolt shootouts.

Chris Hill 08-28-2008 06:15 PM

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Mom is having internet connection issues, so here are facts and rumors as she has told me.

I believe to be Fact: Ronnie West was beaten by Wilkes in second round of class, but the results did not show up on DRC. West was being beat and got out of it. No idea what they both went.

Rumor: Bogan in A/SA has had his car impounded by tech. This issue at hand is intake manifold and it's authenticity. Rumor has it is very "Fast" and could get contingency money if he had won.

Rumor for Barn duty: Beeler, Shaul, Warter (K/SA),

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Fixing to go down and have some wine with Jeff Teuton. He is like us and did not qualify. He is leaving after the 1st round of the hemi shootout tomorrow to get home in time to evacuate for the hurricane that is headed for his house. Carolyn is ready for him to be home and since his motorhome is his evacuation vehicle he had better get there. Hopefully Gustav will turn and go a different direction. Right now it is headed right for him.

If you come out to Indy, come down to see us. We are right across from the new catch net at the end of the track! We plan on being here until Sat.

I will probably get some gossip down in the hemi pits, so more later!

Patsy, sorry about the scenario with the car. I know Larry worked hard to get it there. I saw a pic of it. Looks awesome. Tell Larry it's just a "senior moment". I have 'em all the time now. Luckily I have Austin around to straighten me out. Love to see it up close. Maybe Dallas or Memphis.

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Thanks everyone. And thanks Tom for taking the picture of the car. Come on down and have a cold on on us.
Sorry I have been so slow in posting. We have been up watching super stock class and seeing everyone. Last night we were guilty of drowning our sorrows in Teuton's wine. We did well to make it make to the motorhome.

In the barn for 1st session is Beeler, Polhill, Sledge (pulling a piston), Quinn, Shaul, DeFrank, McFarland, Evan Smith, Kent LaPorte, Koski. I don't have my list. Larry left with the golf cart. Maybe a couple more. I will update.

Met Evan Smith last night. Good guy (for a Yankee). He seemed to be the only one with a possible problem in the barn. Valve too big. Will let you know more later.

Jeff Teuton pulled out this morning to get home before the hurricane.

Hi Patsy,
Did you see McClanahan go dead late on the tree in SS? Transbrake button must have stuck. I've never seen him that late. And he had him covered by over a tenth. Shucks!

Mr. Larry and Mrs. Patsy,
How is the tear down scene looking? Anybody complete with tear down? tossed?

Larry Hill 08-29-2008 05:26 PM

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Also in the barn were Bruce Noland and Brian Rogers. We haven't been back up to check on how everything came out, but they just announced the ladder sheets were available at DRAW so all must be determined. Should be posted soon. We are going up in a few minutes so we will let you know if it hasn't been posted when we get back.

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Can anyone there give me the sportsman "run" schedule for Saturday? NHRA's website tends to neglect that "little" detail.

Also, is the broadcast on the radio for the locals? What is the #'s?

Thanks in advance

Talk About Pretty In Pink That's An Understatement! Larry @ Patsy Super Job.

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Thanks, Alan.
As much of the schedule as I know--Stock -Round 1-7:30, Super Gas--Round 2, Stock-Round 2. Super stock does not run. They have teardown. That is as far as we know since we are leaving after that.
Just went up to give Brett McFarland his bottle of Makers Mark for winning A/S.

Nothing much happening tonight. Everyone getting ready for round 1. Did hear that Bogan's super stocker was in the barn for a while this afternoon.

Well, more tomorrow.

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Thanks Patsy,

I may try to catch you and that beautiful pink Cuda tomorrow. I am riding with my partner from work and I am not sure he will be up in enough time so I can enjoy you sportsman. He will be more interested in the Pro's, I will be trying to get him interested in the REAL racers.

I will try to get the FM station on and hope we can catch some while we are coming in.

Good luck to all and keep up these great updates, I can't wait to get there.

Larry Hill 08-30-2008 03:23 PM

Re: "Live" from Indy!

Well, we are on our way home now. Had an interesting Indy, but way too short. Sorry I didn't get you more info while we were there, but just didn't get around to get any gossip.
This morning during 1st round, Robbie Shaw had the best wheelie of the weekend. Then Miller of the Lucas oil Emmons crew had a really nice one, too. Our friends Paul Boster and Lyn Smith are still in, so good luck to them. I don't think round 3 is until tomorrow.

In the barn when we left were Hodges, Sheehan, Wade and others. Yesterday teardown ran really slow because when superstock ran, they had to go and check on them. They didn't end up but with 1 session of stock teardown.

Well, if everything goes well, we are planning on going to Earlville next weekend, so we will do some live reports from there.

See ya then!
Patsy
