Since I am a total "Pit Snob",a "Starting Line Snob" and a "Hotel Snob"
I feel it is important for the decision makers of a race tracks to solve the issue of saving more than 1 pit space ,The Pitting workers should be the ones respomsible for the enforcemnet of this ".BUT" in all caes the people who pit the racers have a agends for certain racers to save a spot for them ?? not sure how this works but i suspect it has to do with some form of favortisim or???? Now since i am getting "OLDER" if i do not get a decent pit spot I will asked for my money back and leave

This has been going on forever in this division so just a suggestion let them save spots just put them in the last row away from the staging lanes. I get it mostly Super Classes and they hang out at night

I have another idea Put permanant lines for each Pit spot then put up the class who pits there a sign ,so now each class knows where to go the signs are very cheap now the class cars who tow should be the furtheset away from the staging lanes and the cars who drive should be the closests, another profit center for NHRA have new sponsors sponser each catergory pit spot like the Hagerty SS Pits spots for a reasoanble costs ,wow what a concept .another idea if You are over 70 years old You get to pit closer to the staging lanes LOL

Don,
This works absolutely great until organized theft/crime is involved. Think Gators/Charlotte in the 2000's. An organized ring just waited till a class was called and then hit every rig, truck, motorhome, and trailer that was open. They feasted until one person was caught at the Gators, and RH caught one in his MH @ Charlotte. This was just down from where we parked. RH allegedly beat the perp in a cage match (inside the MH). Then threw the perp out of the front entrance. Somehow the perps hand ended up under the front wheel of the MH (The wheel was 2-3 inches off the ground just prior to his hand being stuck under the wheel). Police could not come to a conclusion as to how the perps hand got in the position it was in.

NHRA then started mixing the parking so entire sections of the pits would not be vacant when classes were called.

As a huge fan of the Stock and Super Stock I really miss Alan Reinhart doing the color work behind the microphone. I know Jason Galvin and Joe Castello try real hard but they not Alan Reinhart. They not even on the same planet as far as knowledge of racing. Get RID of Jason Logan!!!!

Alan was (still is) great at what he did, no question about it. It just didn't work out for both Alan and NHRA moving forward, and I truly believe he is enjoying his new opportunity with IHRA.

Having said that, the situation creates opportunities for some different voices behind the mic at the national and divisional level. This weekend, I personally got to be part of the announcing team and called eleven hours of sportsman racing at the NHRA Las Vegas Four-Wide event. That included multiple rounds of the sportsman categories that you care about - which, by the way, I care about them as well. I'm not Alan; none of us are, and I don't think we're trying to be, either. He was immersed in all the nuances of these cars, and can explain the race in front of him in terms that fans of all levels could understand. There's not a lot of people that can do both of those things well.

I'm personally not a "car guy" at that level, although I do love the sport and appreciate everything that goes into it. I'm just trying to do the best job I can behind the mic in an entertaining and informative way, and to do whatever I can to help move the sport forward. I appreciate the opportunities when I'm given the chance. Not everyone is a fan of what I do, but for those of you that have shared positive feedback, thank you. I appreciate it.

Warren

My friend Peter from Sweden tells me at their races pit spots are assigned in advance to each racer. They ask the size of your rig and who you would like to pit next too. When you get to the track on the designated day there is no stacking, you simply drive in straight to your designated pit spot. Best of all, every pit spot has electrical hook ups.

This is a great idea for serving NHRA clients another issue I have with Indy is the condition of the pits >a first class track should always have first class pits no holes no bad pit spots and pavement every where or at least no gravel or dirt that a racer has to drive through like the pits at indy it is a disgace that the pits at a national event have gravel ,hey the NHRA people would not even drive their street rod on dirt or gravel
