Exactly what I thought MJ, perhaps folks grew tired of the ultramarathon this event has been in years past…all the little extra classes, two full days of qualifying (?). Perhaps they were concerned they’d get invaded by locusts (again!) or windstorms would come in (I have it on good authority that weathermen can’t always be relied on). West coast fuel prices don’t seem to have dropped like in the East ($2.69 at Costco here) and tracks disappearing can’t help. Still, I’d love to hear from D6/7 racers why they think the count dropped so much, 128 car field in Stock wasn’t that unusual in years past.

My son and his wife along with my daughter and her husband sat out this year due both having new babies..
Will be there in April with three cars.

LOL, With the massive clay particles covering everything and every surface from the fantastic dirt track (for many square miles), every run was a clean-up run. Still, for some (most), the track was well prepped as usual, but the dust situation was un-manageable and you could clean the cars off by blowing most of it off your cars, and that which you blew off, was destined to find its way to the pit surface and someone else's cars, or rigs and pit space.

I have joked recently that I would actually sleep in the dirt to race again, never imagining how that comment would come back to me in in such an ironic way in reality of walking around in the dirt clouds in the early to very late evenings. And the dirt coatings left on every living and parked surface in the mornings was unbelievable.

Even through all that The NHRA Safety Safari, NHRA Crew and The Las Vegas Raceway Crew carried off the event pretty seamlessly from my view....I personally cannot thank my friends The Irving Family (John and his son Jon, and Jon's Father-In-Law Jerry), for all that they have done to make our (my wife Celeste and I), return to racing possible, their hospitality, care, encouragement and help, is well and so far beyond a longtime friendship and is deep and directly from the heart...Our gratitude is as boundless as it can be, and we cannot thank you enough for the blessings bestowed upon us.

Car counts down from prior years, there is a ton going on in the world these days (illness, weather, economics, wars, fuel prices, parts delays, and a million other things that can cause that!)

Overall though, that is 1 large and long Div. 7 LODRS Divisional and Regional Event...Class Racing and NHRA Racing is alive and well when looking strictly at the competitor entry and pitting situation given all that were there.

I personally know a few Div. 7 racers that would attend it, but with Pomona being a few days later would rather not risk breakage that they could not recover from in just a few days time. That is but just 1 instance...But, if you want to race against many of the best that this country has to offer from across the broad spectrum of all 7 divisions in your category, then it was and is the place to be!

Just be prepared for the very dusty conditions that were schedule related, not weather related. Just imagine though as it is a dry location w/ lower relative humidity, were it also humid too, it would be a totally different situation, that dust would not mostly blow right off!
