I think track closings and fatalities/injuries are two different issues. I have been getting the DRAW newsletter for a few years and am amazed at some of the incidents in their "Injury Report". They happen from the starting line through the finish line and sometime in bizarre fashion. I wonder just how thorough tech inspection is, in some of these 200mph, home built rides. |

There's a picture circulating on Facebook of RT 66 parked full of GM trucks.

The owners have stored new cars there in the past also. I don't think it should be anything to worry about. |
Re: Insurance salvage yards buying racetracks
Bottom line is that stand alone race tracks are a poor business model. Too much land to occupy for too little return with too many headaches that pop up daily.
It’s sad but true. Times have squeezed drag racing and hot rodding out of the modern scene. |
Re: Insurance salvage yards buying racetracks
covid lockdowns resulted in no racing = no revenue for a couple years.

Side note - stop running certain types of events, that attract certain types of crowds, if you want to avoid situations that bring scrutiny from law enforcement, local government and bad publicity. |
Re: Insurance salvage yards buying racetracks
A lot of the reasoning is because the way the land is zoned and also it already had paved areas and cleared land, it’s an easy way to put something there. This is a way cheaper way to plop a building/ business there. The company buying ATCO was / is still going to have to jump through hurdles to get the car auction there but, they basically cut the owner out (thinking the racers would go with) and will deal with the town itself. The sad part is even if they do nothing with the land and I’ve heard it might sit for a few years it can’t come back as a track, it’s officially done and the wildlife will just take it back over. The owner can sell to whomever they want it’s just if the township approves the sale which I think will take some red tape cutting since they were turned down 9-0 before.
For D1 they are really going to have to sway some tracks back to NHRA that left (US13, MIR) but, Craig is going to have to dive in feet first. |
