Quoting a good friend of mine from the left coast "Its the nature of the beast". Meaning, in this instance, that some engines, probably depending most on the cylinder heads, will be able to go quite a bit farther up the range past peak hp. than others can.

It will vary based on what someone is running. I have seen a cam change do it.


How many people when they dyno their engine make a pull more than a couple of hundred RPM past peak HP to really know what it does?

I think it would depend on the intended use of the engine, but more people than you might think run well past peak when dyno testing, they just don't show that data, just my opinion.

I've echoed your statement for a long time as well. We run our engine on the dyno to the same RPM that we run on the track. If it crosses the finish line at 8000, why would you not want to dyno it to 8000 and understand how it is responding?
