You not only lose lift. You lose duration too, and more than you would think.

Yep. Keeping as much lift and duration as you can is the key. Very tight valve lash addresses this. That's not a blanket recommendation, just a mechanical fact.

Even with a true hydraulic lifter full of oil, there will be some amount of push rod cup movement (down) as it acts against the valve spring. How much is the question and depends on a lot of things.

Treated cam, tool steel hydraulics plugged at .008, lash them where you like.

I absolutely agree with both Derek and Alan.

MY boy will be testing the solids in his combo.....I will let you know
how it ends up!
