Re: Englishtown Rumor
I've heard that every year for the last umpteen years, too. But, you've got to be prepared that one day it might be true.
I have no idea Vinny's age, I would imagine he's no kid, and you have to know that at some point he won't be or won't want to run it. With the issues they have there, everybody looking for him all the times with torches and pitchforks, fighting every year has got to get old. They were around when I raced there in the seventies and eighties, and that was 30-40 years ago. You don't know about other family members, if they are interested in running the business or not. So, one day there will be a change. I just hope not this year. |

Re: Englishtown Rumor
I don't know if it would be bad thing if this rumor were true.
Few times I've been to Englishtown the place was going down hill fast with very little or no maintenance/improvements. |
Re: Englishtown Rumor
ETown is a great facility and was a super track before there was such a term. It is run down some and has been repeatedly under attack by neighbors who move in way after the track was in operation. You go there sometimes on a Sunday and the drag strips are both running, the dirt bike track and practice tracks are humming, go carts are running and the drifting or road course is full of cars. It would be a huge loss to motorsports if the facility closed. This same rumor has been popping up for years and years. Hopefully it is just not true. I have been going there since 1966 !

Re: Englishtown Rumor
Vincent Napolitano was the real deal, he loved the place and drag racing. The property is worth bookoo bucks and it's fate is obvious. Nothing last forever, but if the NHRA where legitimate, and it's not, they would cover their sorry asses and buy it to protect their "assets" in a major market. New York!

Re: Englishtown Rumor
Don't think there's enough $$$ to satisfy all the cuts involved in the split. Not sure but I don't know if the property can be sold to continue as a racetrack. Besides, the curfew and noise restrictions make it impossible to run a constant flow of money making racing.
Between that and the changing demographics of the "new" racefans filling the seats is a challenge. I raced there since 1977 (brackets then Stock since 1999) till I sold everything in 2010 and I guess I would miss the place. |
