That's fine until you back into your parking spot and then shut the ignition off.

My preference would be to avoid ANY possibility of forgetting, bumping the switch, etc and burning up the solenoid.

Wire it so it is only active when the ignition is ON.

Your right! I would be putting power to the output side of an open relay.

I think I'll just use a momentary toggle switch on the dash.
