My guess is the 84-96 car are all pretty close, my preference is the 91-96 which what I am building. Look at your criteria
*parts availability - yes most anywhere
*does the chosen body/chassis have a winning record? - not yet
*are off the shelf headers available? Yes, not sure of application, made mine
*does the body have a favorable weight bias? best of the GM line
*does the body have a favorable aero shape? absolutely
*does the body have a reasonable wheel base length? 96
*will the completed package weight about 2950 - 3000 race ready? even lighter
*does the engine compartment have good access? more than anything I have ever raced
*does it have a proven front suspension? mostly aluminum, downfall single fiberglass front spring

Larry doing the back is similar to a front wheel drive conversion.

Mine is currently in paint prison, been there for 3 months.
Mine will see some GT but mostly SS/I J K stick

I enjoyed your S10 build!! I have pictures of my build, just haven't taken the time to post anything yet. Maybe find time this winter

sounds very interesting! The tilt front end has got to be the dream access. And you are correct, the Vette body matches all my request.

I encourage you to post the build photos. Everyone benefits from the information. I was explaining to Dwight Southerland that we need to share our thought process and ideas. It is something we can pass on to the next generation of hot rodders.

I especially would like to see the rear frame modifications and wheel tub install.

By your own admission,, being a big man, I'd think any Corvette would be a chore getting in and out of,, I'm 6' 3" and its a challenge for the few I've been in for me.
I'm liking the 78-83 Malibus also. They're still plentiful and inexpensive to get. There are several around the country in GT and SS,, so its not uncharted waters. Going off the quality you put into the Super 10, I'd love to see how a Malibu would turn out under your supervision. My 2 cents,, Larry.

There was a small Chevy pickup with a 6 pitted next to me last weekend at Bremerton Raceway here in Washington. It was a nice build and the engine room looked like it could hold a V8. Don't know the make or year, just Chevy. There are a bunch of Luv trucks running in Pro and Super Pro out here that are fast and fun.

Is a Vega a Chevy? Honest. I drive a (ford)

Lightest shipping weight of the later generations. Cheap. easier to work on than earlier models because of the tilt front end.

Okay Larry,
I'll give you a sneak preview on your thread. I had to be a little innovative on the wheel tubs. I bead rolled every 3" before I broke 90's on the center section between the tubs to give it some rigidity.

The fuel cell is directly under the original fill lid, and you can see my battery mount, master cut-off, fuel pump and filter

I like the 84 Vette idea, and those 84-85's are getting really cheap. I wonder about the hood clearance? Ernie - is there good room there for a carb? (pic's look nice) I love Vettes, but hate getting in and out of them.

The Malibu's are good choices, and while I am not sure about the weight and "aero" the wagons make nice bracket cars, and have excellent weight transfer. People love em or hate em, but get lots of attention.

You had the 3rd gen Camaro, and know what it takes to make one work killer... (I should have bought that car! ).

How about something like a 88 Beretta GT. Light shipping weight, aero, make pretty good looking race cars, easier in and out than a Vette or small car.

You know I love the S-10... another one would be fine with me.
