$3.50 an hour in 69! I was 16 before I could get a real job. Working at gas stations in the early 70's around here. You were lucky to make $1.50-.75 an hour and get 15 to 20 hours a week, course they'd work you most of that on a weekend, LOL!
I didn't get to mess with cars in earnest until I was out of HS. I well remember the insurance racket. I passed on a lot of neat cars. The car I could afford, it was the insurance that was the killer. Those were the days, I remember passing on a 67 Corvette 427-425hp single carb motor, $2500 I believe, 1973. Don't recall the premium they required but do remember it was expensive. |
