There is no real incentive to set records anymore. It is still an accomplishment, but it isn't worth getting hp. Some parts of the country have national opens which allow you to not have to worry about hp. However, there aren't many down south, as well as in other areas. I hope they atleast try one national open in each division to give everybody an opportunity to set records. Then you might see some things changing in the record book!

I believe you might have seen a new G record along with many others if the Dutch didn't get canceled. I know of a few G cars that had made the trip hoping to try and set it. Barry

We made the trip to the Dutch just for that reason. I'm sure you'll see a few records at the 2014 Atco open. If its as fast as last years open a high 10.70@122 is likely with an old school small block.

National records in the sixties a big deal, today not worth the time to tear it down.

If somebody wants the record for their bucket list, they better do it at Pomona, before Chuck Beach runs his car this Winter/Spring in Florida ! Just saying. JB.

Why is a national record less valuable today than in the 60's?

What would make it more valuable for racers?

What if there were fewer classes so there were less records available?

Is there a desire for more heads-up racing?

I have my own opinion on this but I'm curious as to the thoughts of others.

We use to get points for ET or ET + MPH now you get HP ,cost of tear down and a kiss (if you're lucky)

With cars getting horsepower added to them for going to fast, it does not always make any sense to go to fast. You are only shooting yourself in the foot because you have to add weight to the car or change class. Therefore , it is not always the fastest car in the class setting the record. Now with the opens, and no horsepower being added for going fast, you may see some records that are set by the fastest car in the area, but again it may still not be the fastest car in the class. That being said, it is still an accomplishment to set one. Being torn apart and passing tech, is a lot of work, and personally, I would still do it.
