Re: Chrysler Pulls out of NASCAR
I do think the drag program will be around.
Despite NHRA's best efforts to become NASCAR lite, the two motorsports still have two different fan bases. NASCAR appeals to the folks who are not necessarily car smart, the beer drinking yuppies who like the noise, the crashes, and will soon move on to the next fad. The hope is to sell them cars, but it is apparent that most of them are not really influenced by NASCAR participation. The lots at NASCAR races are full of Kias, Hondas, and Beamers. Drag Racing, on the other hand, still has as it's core supporters genuine gearheads, many of whom race themselves. The Pro Stock efforts are sponsored by MoPar, the parts wing, and not the car selling end. The effort is designed to sell parts....any cars are a bonus. Look at the cylinder heads, the goodies in the MP catalogue? Look at the businesses of Mancini; Indy Cylinder Head, etc.....they move a lot of parts and none of them sell actual cars. They sell that stuff to weekend warriors in brackets, Nostalgia and other venues at the local track on Saturday night. Drag racing sells that stuff. Look at the package DP Challengers.....they were designed to put the stuff in the hands of hands on racers, to sell parts, and in this case to maybe sell some Challengers. That entire scenario is not NASCAR friendly....how competitive do you think a NASCAR "package" Charger would be? Especially when they don't use a production engine? NASCAR has spec cars, spec engines, and has nearly no relation to the average guy on the street. I don't think there is much corelation between the two. |

Re: Chrysler Pulls out of NASCAR
I used to follow NASCAR till they come out with the Car Of Tomorrow.. COT. Now I cant tell one car from another, all of them look like something out of the comic books. I have a new word for the CAR OF TOMORROW.. Boring Car Of Tomorrow.. Or BCOT short for boycot..

I wouldnt be surprised if Honda came into Nascar soon. The whole thing is a disgrace.

Re: Chrysler Pulls out of NASCAR
Don't you love it. A Honda or Toyota with 358 CID, super trick, all titanium, 850 hp 9500 rpm motor made in America in a COT made in America. The only thing Honda will be the decals and the increase in budget to the team owner. Course now you got Toyota AA/FC with 500 CID, Nitro fueled, 8000 HP all made in America, or the Toyota on the side of a Top Fuel Dragster. As Sheriff Buford T. Justice would say "What is the world comin to."

Re: Chrysler Pulls out of NASCAR
The COT was dropped a couple years ago already.....
The present cars are nowhere near the same. No wing....different splitter.....A lot different.... If you don't like Nascar.....don't watch it... I do like it and have for many years. Way more entertaining than watching John Force race Don Schumacher.... People I worked with for years work in Nascar engine shops and have for many years. I enjoy it.....and always have.......sadly not as much as when the #3 was out there and thats for dang sure..... |
