Re: Entrys Low at Pomona

Unless NHRA had a meeting with the DOT of California, there maybe a low pro car count due to the trailer issues. It cost the one racer last year from what I understand $17K to get his rig loaded onto a low boy to get out of California. All most all the rigs are illegal according to California due to the lenght. How many changed there rigs out to satisfy California?

As I understand the problem, CA has an overlength provision for race car rigs, but it didn't specify that the trailer can be over 53 which is the limit, and almost all the pro rigs are 56 hence the problem, and unlike Florida which has a $15 one year permit for such rigs and are really glad to see you and take your money. I don't understand why a state that is completely broke hates all things that help the economy, but then again, its the left coast. I'm sure they can just legislate themselves out of debt (9 bil) NHRA should complete the move to Indy, do away with Pomona (the neighbors hate the crowd, and the economic impact too). Looks like the sportsmen are going, but the pros maybe just didn't register yet.

CA also has a max limit for all rigs non commercial of 65 ft. Some of the friends last fall were turned around on I-10 and sent back to AZ. The friend was told any rig registered RV is limited to 65 ft.
It amazes me how STUPID some states can be by running revenue out of the state with these silly rules.
I am not sure I will be going back again...

Do you really need 53+ feet of trailer?
Do you really need 65+ feet of rig?

As for Pomona, take your pick:
1)High cost of fuel
2)Bogus HP ratings
3)Bogus cars
4)Loss of true class racing
5)Loss of contingency
6)General distrust of NHRA

NHRA S/SS racing is dying. Sure there are the wealthy or the locals who will continue to support the national events. Let's face it, you will never be able to drown out wealth, ego, or the chance to win a wally. But for the most part, more and more racers are turning to local combos or bracket racing. The local combos offer better payouts with less racer investment in money and time. With the bogus HP ratings and idiotic structure of class runs, most nationals have become joke anyway. Anybody that thinks a 2012 Wally has any meaning as compared to a 1992 Wally, or even a 2002 Wally, is only fooling themselves.
