I am (was?) building a '66 Coronet for SS/EA, and the blocks were the same as the '68 blocks, so why can't I run a new block?

I believe you have been miss informed. I don't think there is a superstock hemi out there that runs a 45 year old block. Any block that Mopar sells that they consider a replacement block is legal for superstock....P5155072...P5153942....and the P5153943. The 943 block allows the engine builder to put the lifter bore any where he wants to!

This is true....no rule that says you have to have "stock" deck height in superstock.

Stock can use the first 2 part number blocks...must also maintain a close to stock deck height. The max stroke, max rod length and min compression height of the piston keeps you from using a short deck block.

That is what I thought and exactly what I said to the gentleman on the phone. (I called Glendora.) When I stated about the lifter bores and etc., I was told no such thing happens. The gentleman on the phone said that there were no accepted replacements for the Hemi and I had to run an original block.

Steve call Dave Ley and see what he says, no way all the old hemi cars are using old blocks, you cant even find a decent one. Even the fords have a aftermarket block for stock. And people wonder why there is so much bull that goes on with nhra, no one can give the same answer twice.

FYI,

Maybe that replacement block is included in NHRA's Secret Rule Book that is only available to a chosen few.....

If you let the cat out of the bag about the Secret Rule Book you automatically go on Double Secret Probation for the rest of you NHRA racing career....

Please don't forget about the Secret Handshake that is used by the chosen few.

Wink, wick, nod, nod.

Bob
