Re: Manufactures Points for 2011 GM Cars
Maybe a lot of you don't understand the Manufacturer's Cup and the points.
Points are given to current year Stock, Super Stock and Pro Stock cars for the manufacturer throughout the year at both national and divisional races. The manufacturer with the most points at the end of the year wins the NHRA Manufacturer;s Cup. In the Olds days, this was an important tool for advertising and pride within the corporation. And Olds cared, a lot. Won the Manufacturer's Cup more than any other, as well as more years in a row. And, of coarse, it was good for us sportsman racers, as the people at Olds understood that stock and super stock points were as good as Pro Stock points ....and cost a hell of a lot less to get. Hense, the support we, as sportsman racers received. Could be that way again, if the corporations could only see it. These were good years for the sportsman racer. Great memories for me. FJ Smith |

FJ is correct, and the fact that the NHRA is not following their own rules and diluting the Manufacturing Points chase is just another example of how it's all about the money for them. How does it affect Stock and Super Stock Gump? It emboldens the NHRA to continue to just do whatever they feel will bring in the big $. Rules be damned. It's already affected us. Do the new Mustangs and Challengers ring a bell? Jim

What a bunch of whiners!

Re: Manufactures Points for 2011 GM Cars
Whiners? I guess having integrity, class and doing things the right way means nothing. One reason for racer NHRA loyalty (to a fault) was an organization that stood for something...the NHRA oval was a symbol that stood for something...once.
FJ, I certainly understand yours and others appreciation for Olds and their committment to racers, esp the sportsman guys, but I can't recall their using the mfgs award to increase everyday sales, certainly "in-house" pride possibly, but what do Olds, TRW, Grace, Federal Mogul, Quaker State, et al have to show for their NHRA dollars? Does it do Coca Cola any good to have viewers watch winner circle guys forcing a sip of PowerAid or whatever energy drink is of the day, when they are obviously thirsty, and would probably slam a Coke or Bud...I've often wondered how the marketing guys spin these things to the bean counters |

On a side note, I sure do love all those 1996 Achieva Super Stock cars (Not in the guide). This has been going on for a long time. |
Re: Manufactures Points for 2011 GM Cars
The solution is very simple.Have the manufacturer post for the current models they
manufacture. If someone wants the moolah that bad they'll build the car for it. Say Gump, aren't you one of the guys who had no problem with the "new" F.I. GM cars from the 90s? People-Glass houses-Stones=Trouble |

I believe that the early GTO's were given a ***** load of HP off to get them out and racing again too. You have a telent, and a budget,to get into cars with a good chance of winning some heads up runs.Good for you,but don't pretend it isn't a form of NHRA welfare. |
