Hi Bill,

I just noticed that so many people are pushing their Fords now, that they have come out with the New & Improved Heated Tailgates for the colder climates.

Re: towing with a ?

I talked to a racer last weekend who had a 2001 V10 and he mentioned that he had the rear frame boxed and then installed a class IX hitch.

I was thinking about getting a trailer toad so there would be no downward pressure on the rear of the MH, the toad would carry the load and the MH would pull the load.

My Monaco is 35' and the trailer is 28', is anybody else's MH that big?

I have a 98 fleetwood bounder 34.5 ft and a 28ft dominator..my opinion is you should reinforce the frame even with the toad!!the frame rails that the rv builders add to the existing frame is only intended to support the box on top of it.most gas rv's have a towing capacity of 3000 lbs, even though your not lifting that trailer your still pulling it.im speaking from experience...i broke the grade 5 3/8" bolts that attach the frame to the coach going over a bridge pulling my trailer.we boxed the frame and added a better hitch and no more problems

I just reinforced my motorhome 2 weekends ago. If you climb underneath and look at how they build the rear "extension" you would be in awe.

Mine had a 4-5' section butt welded to end. Part of the problem is the only weld was the top side of the C (which didn't feel like a good weld to begin with, could see it), and a 2" x 5" flat plate on the side, again with some not so great welds. That was it.

I added a 2" x 2" x .250 box tube underneath, as well as a 4" x .125" plate along side to connect frame to box, hitch to box/frame, and the 2 motorhome frames toghether. I then addes some gussets to the rear hitch.

Stock my hitch was rated for 175lbs tongque weight, 3500lbs max. Thats a damn golf cart trailer.
