Re: S/g - s/st ???

Car will be run in NHRA only... I have not been to a IHRA race since they cut Modified/Comp Eliminator. I used to run A/EA, and IHRA was a blast, but I really dont care much for thier new format.

I can easily make the 2800# NHRA S/ST wieght, and throwing a stop on it would be no big deal after all I will need one on the other car anyway so may as well get used to it now.

I like the idea of running S/ST at the Dicisionals, and S/G at the opens except we dont have any opens in Div 2.... Unless I try a few of the S/G assoc. races which I may....

I think you'll have alot more fun with this particular combo in S/ST.

Thanks for everyones input I can always count on the members here to give valued information...

I am going to try S/ST for this year. for a few reasons I realized I dont have enough time to get the car finished and get my License before the first race. Also I dont like the idea of having the slowest S/G car there, it seems like the car is more suited for S/ST without cutting it up more and putting bigger tires under it...which I wont do, not when I have the NEW car comming along so well...

One last question...

If I earn my grade points in S/ST this year will I be able to race S/G or S/C next year?

with grade points earned in S/ST you can race in any sportsman class, but S/G stays with S/G and S/C stays with S/C etc..it is one of the benefits of running S/ST and not to mention you get all your time shots .

if you run over 135 you will need a licence anyway, if you can run a .370 tree go for s/g they hate slow cars!

We do indeed have one open in D2; at Valdosta in November and it's on their schedule again for this year. You're going to need a stop to hold your car under 135 unless you can get your license. Great bunch of racers in D2 S/ST and if you venture up to Reynolds you can run Ed's regular S/ST program.

You could leave it alone and run S/G, just drive it like you stold it when you get to the 1100 foot mark:)

You don't have to be fast to win....if you can cut the light and run the number, you are going to win rounds.....it is a blast shoving fast cars out the door....they will almost always want the stripe...until they get to know you then they wise up. I always say I don't start looking until at least 800 feet, why, because they aren't there! Consistency is the name of the game. All of the classes are tough....look at who wins in one year and with little exception, they don't do that well again the following year. There are a few top ten players every year, but a lot of turnover too.

Many guys run S/ST all year and then run S/G at the Nationals if S/ST isn't contested. I would put a throttle stop on even for S/G. I am probably the slowest car in Super Comp and run on the stop. I won Stanton a year ago with the stop predicting negative numbers! It was on for .05, that's it.... finished 3rd in Div. 3 that year. Advantage with the stop is it is easier than messing with weight all day. Plus changing weight changes the reaction of the car.

With that being said, I do think there is an advantage to being the faster car, but just like being the slower car, you still have to learn to judge your car and make it consistent.

Either way, its a blast. Good Luck this year!

S/C at 150mph! (on a good day)

I have to agree. If you're planning on running in S/G next year or the year after with your new car (most certainly with a throttle stop), why not put a stop on this car to get some experience working with a throttle stop? Sure, the ratios will be different, but you'll learn a lot using the stop on this car, and you could transfer this knowledge to your new car.

As for S/St vs. S/G, I think you made the right decision to run S/St with this car.

S/R at 142 here...lol...the mph doesn't win rounds thankfully. Unfortunately I don't have a choice at 2350#.....Give them both a shot and see what works best for you..;)
