damn BSA... a man after my own mind
OTHER DRUM IVE BEEN BEATING FOR 5 YEARS lower indexes PLEASE ... -.50 on ALL last time indexes moved it was UP!!!!!!!!!!!!! before all the aftermarket bull**** weve been given since captain jack tired of the -1.14 speed limit it is stupid and it cannot and will not ever work |
Another option: At Nationals
Let Stock & Super Stock run like Comp. Wide open in Qualifying , no 1.40 limit. Then when the shoe polish goes on put the AHFS back in place. At divisionals no AHFS. Run & dial what you want. Less record keeping, no problems with mineshaft air altering AHFS.... ect...Think about it. Adger Smith |
What does lowering the indexes accomplish? Nothing but keeping the low-buck guys out of the class. The fast guys are still the fast guys. It doesn't matter if you call it -1.40 under, -1.00 under or -.50 under, an ET is an ET.
$3,500 valve job. Cheap stuff, huh? I've heard of $5,000 "stock" cylinder heads. They let it get out of hand years ago. Michael Beard Staging Light Graphic Design & Printing Duck Tape/Loctite Racing H - I - J/CM '80 Volare 360 Magnum |
who said it was everyone's RIGHT to run the index ????
you guys democrats ? sounds like al gore to me http://www.classracer.com/html/happy.gif i raced my combo for 3-4 years unable to index at indy nationals ... close, but not under... and made the show once over index. AND SINCE THEN THEY RAISED THE INDEXES GUYS !!!! i have worked on my combo for 25 years, and yes i am fairly fast. it does a man good to have to work for what he wants to accomplish jack mccarthy p.s. ed ... MY COMBO IS ONLY 283 WHICH DOES NOT GET THE BOGUS INTAKE WORTH 17HP ON THE DYNO... so bitch at the 64-66 283's... they screwed me (actually they gifted the others) |

Lower the index my ***. Let tech sort em' out and let someone who has actually raced pin point the bunny combos. How about the +25 hp the chev 400's got several yrs ago? They are still killer @ 2 classes lower just not as "popular". They just turned a $900 dollar SS crankshaft into a $3000 dollar crankshaft. The combustion chamber rule just made a 5K set of SS heads into a 7K set. Who comes up with this crap?
$3500 dollar stock heads are CHEAP. Its great to see some rules finally enforced but it seems that it is too little too late. Just like this economy....something should have been done 10 yrs. ago. Why not figure in the excess weight above min. if we are going to use this charity AHFS system? |
>> who said it was everyone's RIGHT to run the index ????
Who said that it's everyone's right to run -1.40 under? You're suggesting a rule change (which will accomplish absolutely nothing other than telling a tiny handful of guys to stay home). I'm suggesting they enforce the rules they have. >> you guys democrats ? sounds like al gore to me Oh h*ll no! Then again, I don't like *any* politicians! >> i raced my combo for 3-4 years unable to index at indy nationals ... close, but not under... and made the show once over index. I went nine rounds in my first two Stock eliminator races of my career and only ran under the index three of those runs. So? >> AND SINCE THEN THEY RAISED THE INDEXES GUYS !!!! Enabling the car count to increase, thereby allowing them to pay out (oh, nevermind... the payout is still low. But at least we have a class to compete in) What year did they raise the indexes? >> i have worked on my combo for 25 years, and yes i am fairly fast. it does a man good to have to work for what he wants to accomplish Certainly, and that's good! But if they move the indexes .50, I'd expect them to move the checkpoints for the AHFS .50 as well. Party on. Runs relative to the index are performance indicators. Adjusted horsepower is supposed to indicate performance potential. E.T.'s shown on the track are actual performance. If you hit the AHFS, either the combination is not factored properly, or that combination in that particular car is not legal. (Note the difference between what's legal and what PASSES) Why do people spend as much money on their car as they do to go fast only to slow it down so they don't 'get hit'? Go run fast, take your hp, and then you can run your combo as hard as you want. >> low bucks guys maybe should rethink being in this high buck "bracket class" >> [...] >> for those who dont like to spend money this way. Spend money WHAT way? I'm sorry, but "$5,000", "Stock", and "cylinder heads" don't belong in the same sentence, unless there's a "Super" in front of "Stock". Nobody ever said Stock was cheap, but it's not really overflowing with bracket guys either. BUT the price of admission into the country club keeps rising, and that's not good for the longevity of the sport. Seems like people only get mad when somebody runs faster than them because their car is even more -=ahem!=- "grey area" than their own! $.02, Michael Beard Staging Light Graphic Design & Printing Duck Tape/Loctite Racing H - I - J/CM '80 Volare 360 Magnum |
ok lets leave the indexes alone...
then lets give back the parts that made it SO EASY TO RUN -1.40 electric water pumps electric fuel pumps only aftermarket pulleys back to factory valve spring specs (ouch) battery relocations factory rear end must be used any gears inside OEM trans (ouch sticks) aftermarket lite brakes factory alternator, belts etc .. and working wheelie bars & chutes ANY suspension alterations prohibited every one of these has been given since they RAISED the indexes ! these are FACTS... how can any reasonable person say with all these "enhancements" we should not be EXPECTED (index) to be faster ????????????????????? jack mccarthy... and those $5000 heads would be a bad investment without that DAMN valve spring rule... p.s my opinion AHFS is a result of NHRA embarrassed when we go 1-40 under thier bunny *** indexes. |
For Stock only ONE rule change is required. I will stand by my original suggestion that NHRA return to the "STOCK" valve spring seat pressure at the "STOCK" installed height that WAS listed in the NHRA Blueprint Sheets for the horsepower combination claimed. Bob |
Beleive it or not Jack, with everything you listed, the only thing that would hamper the perfomance of my Stocker would be the water pump deal. Maybe that`s why I`m only two tenths under. Everything else wouldn`t change a thing for me. And yes,I have put a new motor in the Skyhawk, but it still won`t hit the .50 under deal, and it was done by a reputable engine builder. It just bugs me everytime someone mentions this or that to level the playing field,it`s always the .50 under area. We went through that when Class Winner`s at Nat`l Events had to go a half second under to take home a trophey, and enough money to maybe stop at Wendy`s on the way home, and it only affected about 18 percent of the feild. If you want to lower the indexes, why not shoot for a full second, like it was mentioned that it "seems like everyone does it",then a lot more racers would be scrambling. Lane
