Up here in Mass, while my 79 Lil Red express was being restored and repainted in 1992-3, I found myself, without a vehicle. I would walk from the commuter rail through Reading to Woburn, and down a side street, the unmistakable tail of a superbird parked in the driveway. White, 4 speed 440-6 if I deciphered the vin correctly. I left my card on the car a few times, then after a two years, told the biggest Mopar car trader I have ever know about the car Mike Ditto of Palmer Mass. Mike hammered out a deal and I am sure that the car was rapidly resold for a tidy profit and has long since been restored. For me, the thrill of scouring the want advertiser, calling and talking about a car or part, and then driving out to view the cars and parts is something I miss. Internet and EBAY have changed a lot of that. Lots of parts donor cars, and cars not worthy of driving, led me down the path of the best maintained, most rust free mopars around....ie race cars! Enjoy the cars in barns while it lasts. Race cars in barns would be even nicer! |

There is a '69 Dart Swinger 340 sitting in a back yard across the road from our defunct local drag strip. It's another "gonna restore it someday" car and has been sitting on grass since at least 1981-2 when my late friend inquired about it. I drive past about once a month and look in to see as it rots into the ground.

Re: Something for you Mopar lovers
Absoloutly unbelievable but what good is it?
I know of a original '65 Plymouth A990 car that has been sitting outside behind a barn for countless years, rusting into the ground because the idiot who owns will not sell it because he has plans for it. Or, how about an orginal Motown Missile sitting in the snow in Canada. Same deal, he has plans for it. A mind is terrible thing to waste. |
Re: Something for you Mopar lovers
It's a sickness for sure. I sold off lots of my cars and body parts 10 years ago when I was only 45, I knew already then I would never get to all of my projects. It's a shame to let something sit and rot when somebody with the time and ambition could restore it.Paul.

Re: Something for you Mopar lovers
Reliable sources and photos I've seen show the Don Carlton, then Mike Fons, Motown Missile '72 Cuda rotting away outside somewhere up in Canada! Guy won't sell!
