Re: Espn

The content of the coverage IF and a big IF it is controlled by ESPN only is produced by a bunch of people who do not have a clue of what they are covering and have absolutely no experience in the racing industry.
They have no clue as to what a race is all about.
NHRA is well known for punishing someone who might have ties to IHRA or makes any negative comments about NHRA in any way. So is it any wonder they only cover the people that they think pays the bills for NHRA? I witnessed the comment Warren Johnson being cut from the speaker system at Pamona last fall about the track and NHRA's operation of the race. I did know someone who was in earshot at the interview and was told what was cut from the speaker system during the interview.
Is it any wonder NHRA is losing it racers and fans.
If they were not the only option to race I would already be gone.
My 2 Cents

The TV coverage is a travesty. When they first began they would show the "lower" class finals, then they split the show into the current format and showed the sportsman finals on the Sportsman (Alcohol) cars but still showed the final runs for the rest of the classes. Now we get the ***** that we saw Sun.

I'd rather see all the sportsman classes and read about the pro's in the National Dragster!

And why is it that we see interviews with Force, even if he loses they talk to him first. If I beat him and they talked to him first I'd be pissed.

I have been an avid drag racer since 1964 but I rarely watch it anymore.

It's a shame.

Re: Espn

I think that seeing and talking to "ordinary" racers are much more interesting because of the hardships and determination they overcome and encounter.

What better story than the little guy overcoming and winning a major title.

A million movies have been made with the same topic. Nobody likes to see the rich guy with everything win all the time.

Re: Espn

The NHRA Bristol coverage was plain putrid. Who in the hell cares about a spoof of the Newlywed Game, Mike Dunn riding his bike down the track, or more of the Ashley and John Force show. ESPN has NO clue whatsoever. The show is supposed to be about drag racing, not "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous".

Wow,

I couldn't agree with you guys more...especially you Alan! The idea of a networking deal that would only focus on the classes within this website now makes me wish I'd hit it big in the lottery for that instead of fixing America's auto maker woes...I'd rather watch you guys (and get my own car back on the track), than any of that nitro/alcoholic crap!!! I wonder if we could partner with Ted Turner on something like that?

This just makes me hope even more so that the ideal spoken of two months ago about starting a "Class Racers Association" type of sportsman only sanctioning body will come to fruition, in the forseeable future???

Just wondering here.... Since I don't watch Nascar often to know, do they offer this garbage,( newly weds game, exciting bike riders, etc.) on their programs? I had to walk away.

I think Larry Morgan said best a couple of years ago… "You can't fix stupid"...

ya know,i thoght it was just me.
watching that crap sunday was unbearable
absolutly the worst!
it's been tanking for a couple of years but this was baaaaad.

and the "points race" hype ain't even started yet

i'd rather watch "pinks"
well, not really....
"all out" ain't bad....
gotta give 'em credit, they've done more for drag racing than nhra and espn has lately....

one other thing, a buddy and i USED to go to the mile-hi nat's on thurday because none of the pro-hype crap was there, just sportsman.
he'd go for the comp stuff, i went for the s/ss stuff and the alky qualifying was good to watch.
they did away with thursday and we quit going.....

Re: Espn

The part that really sucks is ESPN can show hours of NASCAR qualifying, an hour or so of NHRA Pro qualifying and even cover dirt track racing but cannot dedicate one hour to the true SPORTSMAN (S, SS, Comp, S. Comp, S. Gas). Sorry but in a race that last three hours I really don't care who starts first and turns left. IMO

Re: Espn

How many Mopar and Chevy guys watching do you think would be interested to see the single 4 A/SA Hemi car run against the A/SA BBC 427 Camaro? Put that against the Newlywed game anyday.
