Great job, once again, on covering the eliminations in the early rounds on Drag Race Central.I sure wish that National Dragster could put the results of the first and second rounds in the Sportsman results issue. After all, after 2 rounds,75% of everyone will have lost. |
Re: Headsup Stk Elim Round Breakout?
Lolyd Mackay was driving my other car at Phoenix (incidently for sale, that's the car, not Lolyd!) and he had a round with the eventual race winner Brad Burton (congrats again "punk!" 2 stinking thou!), they both dialed 10.88 and the Nat. Drag. called it a heads up race!
Larry, is this part of the same problem? |
Re: Headsup Stk Elim Round Breakout?
Nope - the heads-up rules only apply when the cars are the same class - I just forgot to have the software check the classes when flagging the breakouts.
The ND article may have referred to the start as "heads-up," but the breakout rules would still apply in that situation and even my flawed software would have produced the correct answer in that case. The changes I just made will still flag the result as a breakout if the loser runs under his dial-in, even if both drivers have the same dial-in, as long as they are in different classes. |
Re: Headsup Stk Elim Round Breakout?
JUST FOR THE RECORD (I want to make sure ~I~ have this straight!)
A/SA car dials 10.50 B/SA car also dials 10.50 Identical reaction time, not that it matters (it doesn't) A/SA car runs 10.4999 breaking out while B/SA car runs 10.5001 winning the race, because he didn't break out Is that correct, and if it IS, shouldn't it be pointed out that, although the two cars are leaving the starting line at the exact same time, it's NOT REALLY a "heads-up race" because it's a possible breakout situation??? (Traditionally, in a "heads-up" race, the first car to the finish line ALWAYS wins, barring other infractions.) |
Re: Headsup Stk Elim Round Breakout?
Bill,
you got it right ! |
Re: Headsup Stk Elim Round Breakout?
Bill - you are correct - it's a "heads-up start" (both get the green at the same time) but not a "heads-up race" (breakout rules still apply). Otherwise, the quicker car would just match the slower car's dial and win every time.

Re: Headsup Stk Elim Round Breakout?

Re: Headsup Stk Elim Round Breakout?
Thanks for the good info, guys.
Is it just me (old age), or is this stuff more complicated than it was back when we used flagmen to start races???? LOL!!! Bill |
Re: Headsup Stk Elim Round Breakout?
I could have taken my time - all the heads-up races in the Gainesville ND Stock results were decided on red lights and there weren't any in SS. Oh, well, it's fixed.
