There is a lot more in the CJ's that makes them fast than the supercharger.
That "Magic Fairy" has been bolted not only in the CJ's, but also in a lot of other of other OEM cars including Japanese, European and US cars, including GM.
For starters, you have a OHC engine with very efficient cylinder heads. Then add what is called in the automotive industry, Displacement on Demand (DoD) Systems.
The DoD technology enables the Engine Control Module (ECM) uses the information related to the operational status of the engine to implement real-time running efficiency of the engine and effects changes in the operation of the engine through the control systems that manage its operation.
I do not know if the these cars are using Variable Cam Timing (VCT) and/or Variable Valve Timing (VVT) like the new Ford 5.0 engine does. I have seen the ECM graphical displays for VCT and VVT and I can tell you you can program the cam events for maximum engine efficiency throughout the whole run.
If the next generation of CJ's have the new 5.0 engine, as proposed, with ECM controlled VCT and VVT, watch out.
