Isn't the whole purpose of a racing seat to keep you from moving laterally in a crash, and the belts to keep you in that seat? I would expect the threaded inserts to pull right out of the plastic in a crash. Then you're relying on the belts to keep you AND the seat in place also... I had a pair of these in my ElCamino when it was a mid 11 second street/strip car. Feel much safer with the stock bench in it and my Chevelle than those plastic seats! |
Re: Rules amendments 2013
I'am in process of building a camaro stocker that my 18 year old daughter that just came out of Jr's. I put a full cage in it and now will put Kirkey aluminum seats in it because she will be safer and i will feel much better watching her go down the track. The cage cost alot more than say a six point but money well spent to us.

Re: Rules amendments 2013
Sorry Mark not today. I just want a real answer. I personally don't think the Kirkeys or the plastic seats should be allowed in stock.
The last time I was at Pacific Raceway I happened to walk by the motorcycle guy's all lined up waiting to make runs, There was about 30 of them and almost all of them had a HJC helmet. I wonder what they know that Chad doesn't? Get over it. The seat in Kelly's car is bolted to the roll bar and plated were it mounts to the floor also. There must be a couple thousand of those plastic seat in racecars so let's not start an argument about them. I had a Kirkey in the chassis car but it was not very comfy. If I was worried about our safety I wouldn't be racing, I'm more concerned with all the people towing with their 1/2 pickups. No that's dangerous.... |
Re: Rules amendments 2013
Just wait until NHRA figures out that plastic seats are made of polycrapylene and puts a 2 year replacement interval on them just like seat belts. lol.

Re: Rules amendments 2013
For people wanting a seat that looks period correct but that is better made than the old seats Procar has some nice ones with tig welded tubular steel frames and remove able headrests. They are reasonably priced at around $260 each.

Re: Rules amendments 2013
Polycrapylene, is that the main export of China?

Phil, if you are really attempting at a true clarification, it would suggest e mailing or calling an official at NHRA. I mean, anyone on the forum could have the correct guidance or a better idea, but it won't hold in tech. I think the forum is great to get input, ideas and perhaps even be entertaining (some can't handle that though) If it is a true answer you seek, go to the source. You might not get an answer you like, but at least itis an "official" one. Pat Cvengros is usually prettygood at responding to questions as an NHRA official. Don't get pissed because someone here on the forum didn't tell you what you wanted to hear. Happy Thanksgiving all! |
