I am only talking about factory production line ( street ) cars with VINs. None of what I have commented on in my posts have anything to do with the Factory Stock cars. ( COPO, DP, CJ ) Please do not get the 2 types of Stockers confused. |
Re: Qualifying with no AHFS
So spending nothing on your car as well as no time and showing up should give you the same chance as the guys who do?
That is some pretty slanted logic there. Quote:

Re: Qualifying with no AHFS
Stock is supposed to be an entry-level catagory, and spending money shouldn't be the barometer on how your car performs. Stock has been corrupted by after market influencs. Btw, I've been racing the same car for over 40 years and it's had a factor on even before I started racing it.

Re: Qualifying with no AHFS
Slanted logic is having 160 + mph racing sub 100 mph cars. How is NHRA going to explain that a car with not so much as a roll bar gets slammed by a car going too fast as a stock car. I hope it never happens, but it's a possibility!

ET brackets is entry level. Stock is not.

Re: Qualifying with no AHFS
Who would anyone build a factory rated street combination when there are so many under-rated CJ/DP/COPO (and de-rated street Challengers....) combinations to choose from? Some of them cost a significant amount more money to build, but not all of them.
One specific combo I see mentioned here is the 2010 Camaro rated at 400hp. For comparison, the 1999-02 LS1 Camaro/Firebird is rated at 382, and while it's definitely not a killer combo like it used to be, it looks like two of them qualified at .90+ under at Indy this year. The '10 engine has 30 more cubic inches, slightly bigger valves, and similar other specs according to the guide. Maybe I'm off base here, but shouldn't that be capable of making 30 hp more than an LS1? Yes, you'd have to build a good, well sorted car to be competitive, but what's wrong with that? |
