Not quite like bracket 2 but close. You still have an index to work from.

Hey Mark,
Do you have an extra factory bench seat for a 69 Cobra laying around that you could donate to this cause? I'm not going to cut up and alter the ORIGINAL seat for this car. You guys are worried about people installing the aftermarket seats safely and correctly but you are recommending that I cut up and the factory seat frame to notch it for the shifter? Which will more than likely be a weak point in a crash?

Kris, I`ve owned 2 69 Cobras myself, and I `m pretty sure that the seats were nothing special from any other 68/69 Fairlane 2 door. I certainly don`t recall seeing any "R code" designation on the seat frame or tag! I`m pretty sure that your car has had trimming or rolling of the rear wheelwell openings, maybe had the floor cut for subframe connectors, had a roll bar or cage welded in, all of which is much more invasive than cutting a generic bench seat that can be changed by removing 4 mounting nuts. Any chance your opinion is due to you having aftermarket seats in your car already for running brackets?? I scrapped a 68 Fairlane a couple of years ago, with the stock bench seat in it, I doubt you would need to pay more than $50.00 for a stock Fairlane/Torino bench seat to cut for shifter clearance, if your origional seat is too mint to cut.

And don't forget heads up and qualifying. Plus most cars at a bracket race have the technology of cement mixers.

The seat thing is done, like it or not. The interiors of the cars will not look as cool, but will be much safer. It's real simple, if you don't want to change don't. I'll take the 60 pound savings, that should make that pill a little easier to swallow for me.
These rules are changing, whether we like it or not

Yeah... because there's a reason I took the bench out of the car to begin with and it wasn't because of weight. When you're on a bad track or a late round with dew setting in and the car is breaking the tires loose in high gear at the 1000' mark that bench seat does not scream "I'm hear for you man". I've been around Div 3 Stock/Super Stock racing my whole life and I've always wanted to put the car back in class racing where it belongs. But I dreaded having to put that seat back in the car hence why I just paid $450 for broken framed junked out factory buckets that I was going to pay who knows how much money to get fixed back up. Don't get me wrong the factory seats look cool as hell while you're walking through the staging lanes but they are not safe in a crash and that's just the way it is. I'm getting ready to head home for R&R in about 4 weeks. I'll be home for Christmas and New Years and while I'm home I'm sending the car to the chassis shop to have a 10 point cage installed. I've got to look at this as I'm building it for my kids to race. My oldest is 8 and he's already wanting a jr. dragster... yes its in his blood too. Just ask my wife she's real happy about it let me tell ya LOL. I can't see letting my boy drive this car in 8 years running mid to low 10's with 600+ hp at 3800# with a 6 point bar with a swing out, factory bench seat and feel good about it when he leaves the starting line. In a hard front end crash with a 6 point bar that the only part of the cage or bar thats in front of you is a swing out bar. That swing out isn't going to do anything in a crash but break and that bench isn't going to help keep you safe either. I like the new seat rule for SAFETY!!! Is there a weight benefit with the aftermarket seats yes there is but that is NOT the reason I will run the Kirkey's in our car and the good news is if you don't want to change you don't have too.

I think the seat rule grand fathers in all the new cars ( because those cars in the show room dont gots aftermarket seats ) and its an added safety thing . I did get a chance to sit in some of the newer cars with the newer seats and they are nice . I am not sure how the copo seats would look in a 67 camaro ? The 3speed rule is only for the glide replacement , I dont think you can swap a 3 speed auto in a car that had 4speed stick only as was asked about earlier . Hey Bob you if you put front seats in the wagon you can just run N/sa .....lol....
