Re: Monday Morning Horsepower?
Bobby, NHRA has a series of platforms they consider a family. I think the Nova is included with the Camaro. Personally I don't like the 'family' system they use. But then what do I know. But if you read the post on NHRA Racer, it specifically has Camaro and Nova together.

Re: Monday Morning Horsepower?
Bobby,
The Nova does NOT get HP added. One of the criteria, besides the engine, is that the HP is applied to the same "platform" (i.e. F-body). Since the Nova is not an F-body, HP is not added to the Nova or any other non-F body vehicles. If the '69 Firebird had been available with the 396 (of course that kind of thing didn't happen back then) it would have been included. |

Re: Monday Morning Horsepower?
dont know just curious like Bobby???
The horsepower rating for 68-69 Chevrolet Camaro, Nova, entries with the 396 cubic inch engine and a factory rating of 375 currently rated at 399, has been increased by thirteen horsepower, to 412 horsepower; for Stock Eliminator. The horsepower rating for 93-98 GM Camaro, Firebird, entries with the 350 cubic inch engine and a factory rating of 275-285 currently rated at 346, has been increased by twelve horsepower, to 358 horsepower; for Stock Eliminator. |
Re: Monday Morning Horsepower?
The Warren/Adkinson heads up race was awesome! From the burnouts to the finish line it was everything we love about stock eliminator! If you win races and it cost you a few hp (even a few 14) then so be it! I'd trade 14hp for another wally!

Re: Monday Morning Horsepower?
I always thought the Nova and Camaro were separated for horsepower. I happened to have an old (not that old, just before the HP update today) copy of the 69 Chevy classification guide in my downloads. For stock, every single 396/375 combination (both manual and auto, iron and aluminum head) is rated the same, and was updated on the same date (for those that have dates listed). However, in super stock, that is not the case. The 396/375 manual is rated 399 in the Camaro and 405 in the Nova. Also, the 396/350 Camaro with OEM heads got 5 hp (up to 374) in the Camaro on 1/1/15, and the Nova is still at 369 (last updated 1/1/14).
I always thought these were separated because of the wheelbase difference, but I don't seem to have an answer. Does anyone have clarification on this? A quick glance at the 70 Chevy sheet shows some differences in 402/375 HP ratings in stock. |
