Re: Listen to Terry
I don't usually comment on these things and if this rule is passed I look to make a lot of money. BUT---The last thing you want is unlimited valve springs in this class and open pandoras box ( aka wallet ).------ Listen to terry------- I knew exactly what his ( " LOL!!!! ") meant. --Just a word to the wise------Terry-see you next month at Meechum ?

Re: Pure Stockers New Camshaft Rule !!!
Thanks Steve;
I agree with keeping it Show Room Stock. Did not know where the new Caddy and Vette would go. Hence the suggestion. Just passing along another suggestion to speed up Tech. Keep current Cam rule. More Spring will not improve ET that much. You will warn just enough Spring. Too much Spring creates parasitic drag. Have some creative company design a tool to measure the Cam movement with the Head on the Car or Head removed. Instead of 30 minute set up and check. The Cam Test Tool would require a couple quick rotations and one back up test. Ray 2903 H/PS. Do I have a picture of your car? Dan |

IMHO, For current and future Pure Stock racers, Other than dealing with the proposed cam / valve spring rules, PLEASE leave the current Pure Stock rules alone.. Keep in mind that this is supposed to be an entry level (though competitive) class with results achieved by innovation and hard work, not cubic $$$$.. Pure Stock does not need Drag Specific (AA, AAA) factory built drag cars, or blower or turbo cars. only showroom available, to the general public. If IHRA accepts the 2009- 2014 showroom available cars just added to the NHRA guide, most V8's will fit in B/PS thru E/PS. Challenger cpe, Must GT and Camaro SS. Roll bars and harnesses may be have to be considered below 11.49 The indexes, let IHRA monitor the first few races and go from there. Some combos may need HP to level the field rather than an index change. NEVER suggest a 3 tenths index reduction, if you're wrong you'll never get it back.... Pure Stock may be considered to be last shred (in both HRA"S) of how it was and originally conceived (pre 1985) as Stock or Jr Stock back in the day. As shown by the amount of interest generated in this thread, (over 6,100 hits and 87 replies) in three days, it is evident that there is interest to preserve and promote Pure Stock. Thanks to Terry, Dwight, and other "veterans" who share their opinions and experiences related to the direction of this class..[/QUOTE] Its not how safe your car is but the 9 sec car chasing that will total his ,yous or both |
Re: Pure Stockers New Camshaft Rule !!!
Every door you open, some more horses ($) get out. If there is a real reason to open up camshafts to anything with stock lift, only the valve spring pressure is keeping them from getting very radical and breaking parts. I would suggest a companion rule that equalizes the standing of different brands and models--set a reasonable max spring pressure for everyone, say 300 or 350 lb open.

Re: Pure Stockers New Camshaft Rule !!!
As a matter of historical fact, when NHRA allowed any stock appearing valve spring, it was shortly followed by aftermarket steel retainers, ceramic lifters, tool steel lifters, oversize pushrods, oversized studs, and now, roller rocker arms. And stockers than run 8500 rpm in the lights. I don't believe that is what you are looking for with Pure Stock.

My mind has been spinning taking in all the feedback....Springs, Cams ...! Bottom line, Got to keep the rules the same. Keep Pure Stock rules as they are. Need discipline. No changes! More Valve Spring will allow for more radical cam science. Someone posted that there is a record of every spring on cars. Ok let's use it. If IHRA needs a Spring Tester. I will Pay for it. Think the real issue; Tech and Racers need to figure out how to make Tech easier. Some have posted harsh opinions about PS. That we are not real Stockers. Yet we are running on the old rules before Pandora's box turned Stock into Super Stock light. Not to dirge today's Stockers, in 1985 few Stockers could run on a Super Stock index's. I have magazine articles when Junior Stock and FX and everything got reorganized. Stock became absolutely Pure Stock to the correct option, facia or emblem on the car. Minor technicalities got you busted. Today much of this has been relaxed. 1974 the rules changed to allow Blueprinted cams. Because racers were regrinding their Stock cams during the Real Pure Stock years. Stock grew yet remained a tech management nightmare. Stock Science morphing got what they wished for. Now they are Super Stock light, far from Stock and way expensive. IHRA had the wit to be different experimenting with new and old ideas. Today's Pure Stock is using 1985 rules, growing with the same tech headache. They added Crate Motors morphed into something unStock, again (my opinion). But that was the trend. Bottom line! Pure Stock allowed me to get back into the game. So did many others. Please leave the rules as they are. D |
Re: Pure Stockers New Camshaft Rule !!!
A lot of the older, hardcore Stocker racers will tell you that the valve spring rule was the beginning of the end in Stock Eliminator.

It all comes down to finding a way to ensure that pure stockers will pass tech without diassembling the entire car. |
