Re: Mopars Little A Body Terrors...
I'll see if I can find the 1969 National Records.
We were there, with a 1967 Barracuda Fastback 273/235 HP classed in K/S. And one our friends brought out his 1967 Barracuda Fastback 383/280 HP to run in H/SA. Nobody could believe the 383 could be classed there. |
Re: Mopars Little A Body Terrors...
1969 National Records
N/S......13.97 @ 99.10 MPH N/SA... 14.38 @ 95.55 MPH I think that is close http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/a...5&d=1252881435 |
Re: Mopars Little A Body Terrors...
We set the N/SA record in the spring of 69 at LaPlace , LA. 14.15
I still have the certificate. We loved that place. The little 2bbl 273 would fly at those sea level tracks. |
Re: Mopars Little A Body Terrors...
Rob,
That's an excellent E.T. Here are the 1966 National Records, when the 66' Valiant 273/180 HP would have been classed in I/S or I/SA (15.00 - 15.59 Wt/Hp) I/S.........14.28 @ 96.35 MPH..........1956 Chevrolet I/SA......14.78 @ 93.94 MPH...........1958 Chevrolet Those 'Cheating Bastards'..... Never could quite figure out the (+55) Horsepower difference between the 273/235 HP 'Commando' and the 273/180 HP. Piston Compression Camshaft Valve Springs Intake Carburetor Dual-Point Distributor Always thought the 273/235 HP was 'over-rated' by the 'Factory Rating', even though we ran a bunch of them. Much closer to 215 to 220 Horsepower, that the NHRA finally recognized. |
Re: Mopars Little A Body Terrors...
We originally ran a 65 Barracuda- 273-235 hp combination, but after fighting the chevys for a few years switched to the 180 hp 2bbl combo. Dad said several times that it was nuts for our combo to be rated at 235 hp while the 283 Chevy's were rated at 220 hp. He complained to Farmer every time he saw him, but to no avail. HP adjustments were virtually non existent back then.
