I` d like to comment and ask a couple of questions,,,,,,first,,,I`m all for the rules in stock,,,the intergritiy of stock should be keptin tact as much as possible,,,,,,,shoot,,,if I was making the rules, stock would be thrown back to stone age,,,,,,,so if a car is a 76,,then it need 76 trim, seats,,motor

I understand as time goes by, trim packages do have to give some because of parts not being available,,and so on...

what I dont understand is a couple of items,,,,,,,,the past results show Lukes car always claimed a 68 or 69,,,,,,,,the writing of a 70 on a car that he isnt that familiar with is an easy mistake........the item I dont understand is simply this..........who gave him the weight sticker and put it on his car?????......at that point, someone should have caught that a 70 Nova couldnt run AA/SA.......OK,,,maybe not rite then but in Ihra,,,nearly as soon as you hand someone a tech card, someone is going thru the tech guide to check your info.......shouldnt this mistake been caught before the tech card hit the tower????,,,,it was obvious it was caught,,,why did they wait till after all of quailifying was over???? I can tell you first hand there is politics involved in motorsports......was this the case???.......since it was clearly a typo error.....and since it didnt effect hp/ run sheet/ or legality of his car,,why wasnt he allow to just write 69 on it????..Even though Im sure he was trying to avoid a heads up,, the 69 could run the class he desired to be in, so a reasonabe\le thinking person could plainly see there was no "scam" going on.........so why the DQ???? it would be COMPLETLY different if ANY thing changed like position on the ladder/weight/hp rating......but it wouldnt have

He took responsibility and didnt try to blame someone else but those questions above are legit questions......can you just write anything on the tech card and they dont check it....I dont have a dog in the fight ,,but when you roll across the scales, dont they have that info already posted in their book????,,,shoudlnt NHRA notified Luke on his FIRST PASS across the scales ..."sorry,,,there isnt a weight for you 70 AA/SA nova,,,,need to go see tech".....

or was someone just have a "GOD complex" and trying to teach a newbie an expensive lesson instead of trying to be helpfull?????

Well said, the funny thing is Tim most of the people who complained arent on a lot of qualifing sheets well at least according to Dragracecentral.com.

I am not certain but believe Ray Skipper had a similar problem and was also DQ'ed at one event for the same thing. Year listed could not run the class he entered in.

I don't know any exact details of that event but do know Ray is as nice a guy as you'd want to meet....and NHRA just followed the letter of the rules.....apparently he made a similar mistake and suffered the same penalty.

I really don't think NHRA has the manpower to oversee a category like stock anymore. They surely don't have people that could know all the details on cars that are 40 years old....or older!

They rely on racers to fill out there info correctly and probably to police the category a little bit as well. I would have a hard time going over to a Tech guy and pointing out something that was wrong on another guys car in my category...unless it was outright blatant cheating.....

In the past I have seen NHRA tech make things a little difficult for well known bracket racers or newbies that show up in Stock or SS......Usually a little spot check on the return road or somewhere and they find things for you to fix! I think they were or are just trying to keep you on your toes.....and it should be this way as long as they run this category....

Spear claimed his nova as a 1970, it looks like a 1969 version though

Now that you have beat this guy to death, an average joe racer . Does anyone know what went on in super stock with a very rich owner and his multiple event winner driver? After qualifying and winning one round he was caught with 17 inch wide tires on a super stocker. The head of tech was told of this, he looked at them, called the tower and asked what to do? they called back and said > tell him to change them, and he continued to race. would this be the same performance gain as having 11 inch tires or too big a cam in stock? WHY IS EVERYONE INTIMIDATED BY MONEY AND A MULTIPLE NATIONAL EVENT WINNER ?
