Tire Screws????
I have a Mullis 4 link and a Sunset 565 that makes 1039 HP should I be using tires screws. Ive been trying to solve a long standing reaction time problem.

Re: Tire Screws????
I believe that wheel screws are the poor mans bead locks. I think anything we can do to make the tire stay connected to the wheel is helpful. However, I'm not sure about helping RTs. Can you give more info about your combo?
What class do you run? What tire pressures do you run now? If running SuperComp, what is the first number in your timer? What starting line chip are you using? What is your stop/stall? Thanks, Dan |

Re: Tire Screws????
Another question. Is the tire moving on the rim? If not you don't need screws. The newer wheels don't seem to need screws.

Re: Tire Screws????
Depending on your converter. .1 may not be enough time to get the car moving out of the beams before the T/S turns on. Do you use a Racepak or other data logger system?

Re: Tire Screws????
I would think .1 would be plenty for a dragster, I had mine coming on at .05 in a door car when I had a stock type front suspension leaving at 3800.
I would get someone to video you and the car, being in a piperack you should be able to see your reaction to the tree and what the tires are doing too. Having some type of data recorder would help as well. Last edited by Dave Polichena; 03-21-2014 at 10:35 PM. Reason: spelling |

Re: Tire Screws????
Fist you should mark your tires and wheels with a crayon or some type of marker. If the marks do not stay aligned, then the tire is moving on the wheel and you need screws.
Videoing the car is an excellent way to see what it's doing on the launch. You'll need a good camera that you play back the recording very slow or frame by frame. You'll be surprised what you can see. With a 565 with 1000+ HP, you may well be too high on your launch RPM at 5600 and may be spinning the tire and that will hurt R.T. way more than a tire slipping on the wheel. Also if your converter is too loose that can contribute to it. Check your converter flash RPM and check with your engine builder and converter builder for where it should be. Too high a flash RPM can hurt you as much as being too low. |
