setting up rack& pinion
I need some help setting up my rack &pinion steering. I was told it is best to try to get tie rods as level as possible to the steering arms to elimanate bump steer. How much angle up can I have.
Thanks Mike |

Re: setting up rack& pinion
aim for no difference.By keeping the rack arms parrallel to the control arms and a small amount of toe in, you just gave yourself a safe handling race car to drive. Your fellow racers in the other lane will love you for it
Mike It's not the normal run your building for. It's the run that for whatever reason an evasive move needs to be made |

Re: setting up rack& pinion
Obviously making sure there is no bind in the heims at any time during travel up and down and when turning is your first priority.
I prefer to shim the rack if possible rather than use too tall a spacer on the arms. A lot depends it the rods are on the top or bottom of the arms. Your local Stock Car guys are a good source of heim spacers in different heights and come with a larger base and a tapered end for heim clearance. I'd avoid going higher than 1" on a Strange strut arm , more than that and they tend to twist. X2 on the guys in the other lane.
