Question Pick-up Wheelbase

I've been considering the various wheelbase configurations as I browse the used truck market. Will I notice a significant difference between short and long when towing a 24ft trailer? Currently have a F250 extended cab w/8ft box, so, long wheelbase. Any reason to avoid a short wheelbase F350 dually for instance?

Hi Dave I believe the four tires in back help a lot with stability. I have a big F550 and tow a 24' trailer with no equalizer bars or antisway bars. Just the 2 5/16 ball.
And when tractor trailers go by me I don't feel a thing.

Hope to see you at the PRI.

Thanks Artie. I like the stability offered by the dually, just wary of the short wheelbase on a reg cab w/short box. My height makes the extended cab a desired feature and I guess that gives me the answer to the wheelbase question. The truck needs to be my daily transportation, so I would like to avoid a crew cab w/8ft box....usually no more than a shotgun passenger with me anyway.

PRI is on the calendar.

I don't think you can buy a short box dually in a regular cab. Just buy a GMC and don't worry about failure ( O will bail you ) ---Trevor

Maybe not currently, but they were offered. Saw one with a V10 on Kijiji last year. Not concerned with failure Mr. Jones, just towing quality.

I think what you will notice the most is that the short wheelbase has a rougher ride. I had a 84 f250 regular cab before I bought an 87 crew cab dually and the dually had a much nicer ride. I bought a 2002 diesel dually and that rides better than my 87 dually did.
