Default Livezey throws up a “Hail Mary”, Ties Cambria for title!

Livezey throws up a “Hail Mary”, Ties Cambria for 2011 MASCA Championship!

Atco Racway – Atco, NJ – The Mid Atlantic Super Comp Association completed its final 2 events of the season at Atco Raceway on September 17th & 18th. Going into the event Tom Boyle held a 3 round lead over Jeff Livezey Jr. for the 2011 MASCA Championship with Joe Cambria sitting in 4th place and still being able to claim 2 more events towards his year end total.

As Saturday’s racing got underway it would be Atco & Englishtown Divisional winner Rich Leone ad his 99 Cressman dragster who would stake claim to the #1 Qualifying spot with a 8.904. Following Leone would be Deb Moses, Oscar Olt, Randy Windfelder Jr. & Jeff Livezey Jr.

As eliminations got underway it would be 2011 NHRA Gatornationals Super Comp Winner Tom Dauber wheeling his brand new 2011 Phantom Dragster into the winner’s circle at day’s end. Dauber started off the day with victories over Kent Hanley, Windfelder Jr, Rich Dorr and Cambria in the semi-finals. Dauber’s final round opponent would be Debbie Moses who was making her return to the cockpit after a few races off. Moses started her day off with victories over Jack Donnelly, Nate Shivers, Ray Fordyce Jr and received a bye-run into the final round.

As both drivers rolled up to stage it would be Moses who would take a giant advantage on Dauber at the flash of the green. As both drivers traveled down track Moses would ultimately give back the starting line advantage she received at the green at the stripe as Dauber would seal the victory with an 8.902 to 8.958 victory.

On Sunday the Super Comp drivers faced the same conditions as the Super Gas Group as they were in for a tough day of dialing their cars. Rich Dorr made the trip down from Watertown, NY and laid down a perfect 8.900 to claim the #1 qualifying spot. In a session that featured 9 8.90 runs the Super Comp guys were set on kill for the day. Following Dorr in the qualifying order was Walter Olt, Kathy Smulligan, Frank Lauria and Tom Boyle.

Going into the day Jeff Livezey Jr. knew what he had to do and hope that all the cards fell into place for him to make an impact in the final points standing. Livezey would have to win the race and have Tom Boyle & Cambria go out in the 1st round for him to have a shot at a tie with Cambria for the championship. Livezey Jr. started his quest to the final round with victories over Lauria, Windfelder Jr, Local Atco Bracket Racer Mike Nahill and a semi-final victory over red-lighting Ray Fordyce Jr. On the other side of the ladder was Walter Olt who was trying to pull a “Double-Up” in Super Gas & Super Comp. Olt helped out Livezey in the first round when he ended Cambria’s day, Next up Olt would take down Kent Hanley, Tony Iacono in the 3rd rd and received a bye-run into the final round.

So the final was set and Livezey Jr. was not going to be denied in his quest to be co-champion as he was .013 to Olt’s .021 on the tree and lead the whole way to victory with a 8.939 to 8.951 decision over Olt and denying him the chance to “Double-Up”.

With the victory Livezey Jr. will tie Joe Cambria for the 2011 MASCA Championship. Due to both drivers not being at any events together to have a run-off we will have co-champions for the 2011 season. Finishing in 3rd place 1 point behind Cambria and Livezey is Tom Boyle, Followed by Dave Long & Bill Hardifer.

Thanks to everyone who attended an event in the 2011 season!
