Default Non Profit

I just read some of the Wikipedia page on non profits. One thing that stood out is the compensation paid to the person at the top.It says they should be paid a reasonable salary, based on the health of the organization.Compton and Gardener pull in a combined total of $1,000,000.
Do you see something wrong with this picture?
There was a section on real estate exemptions that varied state to state.Wonder if Cal. rates better than Ind.
Some other points look kind of shaky too,but I'm not a lawyer.Anybody with a law background have a chance to read it?

I read somewhere that a CEO of a big company like G.M. was going to work for 1 dollar for the year. I thing that in these times most CEO's should. Their bank account is already paded enough. Oh yea, they could move into a more modest house like the ones that we live in.

Bobby;
I dont think they should make $1.If Compton went from $700K to say $250K till the association got back on their feet I think everyone would pull together to make things work.No more no less.
GM is a for profit co.Different situation.

Just trying to use an analogy. But I think that anything over $100k is over paid. They probably have enough in their bank account to live on for a year to make just $1.

Ed -- I'm trying to understand your logic -- are you saying Compton's 700K salary is OK if he worked for profit company ? What difference does that make? Either he is worth it or not............

Bobby -- Its very obvious you've never made 100k per year -- there are people that deserve it ! !

I believe the 700 K may be Tom's base. With perks and ad-ons he is probably north of one million.

Ed O'Brien -- Do you think someone like the CEO of the Red Cross is only worth 200k ? To get top people in their fields non-profits have to compete with for profit companys with salaries...Also because a company is a non profit it doesn't mean the employees have to be.............Another argument could be that Compton isn't the top man in his field -- thats a whole different thing .

Cool Re: Non Profit

Bobby,
Are you including athletes, actors and actresses, authors of books, congressman, pilots, surgeons, Bill Gates, Donald Trump, etc. or just anybody and everybody ... the last time I looked it is still a free country, if someone offered you a 500k job would you turn it down and say no, I am only worth 100k ... Jack is right, you probably have never made or been close to 100k a year ... and there are people that work hard and deserve it. You could be one of them, no one is stopping you but yourself ...

No i havn't, made 68k last year, wife and I together made $120k. I guess what I wrote didn't match what I was trying to write. All I was saying is maybe these people could use a tax break (haha) and give back to the company. Let's see the gov tax $1 a year. the company gave to them all these years. Like the big 3, why did they go to the gov for a bailout? If the big dogs would give back and maybe a few years down the road, take back. Shoot, I don't know. Never ran a business b4, so I guess I'm just blowing smoke up my own *****.

Do I have to write this in crayon for you to understand?I'm not saying that $700K is too much.I'm quoting what the IRS might question in their guidelines for salaries to upper mgt. of a No Profit. Now,is that clear
enough?
That being said I personally think the whole bunch are over paid.Period.I'm sure there are those who would step into his job for half the $$ he makes and will develop a plan, working with legal,pros,sports-
man racers and fan output to better the sport.
