Couple of questions about Stock
I am a bracket racer only run 1/8th mile only been racing for a couple of years. I'll admit i don't have a wealth of knowledge but trying to learn more everyday.
As i understand Stock is suppose to run stock heads, intake, and carb, right? The cam has to have stock lift but any duration and lobe seperation that you want, and a lot of ET is found through the car not just the motor. I know that most heads aren't "stock" but still they obviously don't have great flow numbers. I know no one is going to give away all their secrets and i wouldn't expect you to but hoping you could give me some general answers. looking for some answers about cam selection. I run a 393 a 351W based stroker with a set of Edelbrock RPM heads which only flow about @250 at .600 I knew the heads were small when i put the motor together but money was tight and i got them for a good price. I was told buy several people since the heads were small and i was feeding 393CI to keep my cam selection fairly mild. Was told as bracket racers with low horsepower motors we should try to make up as much ET as we could in the first 330 ft and you do that by making as much torque as possible, and that a "big" cam would hurt me. I have talked to several Stock racers they told me basically they try to make their cars run as quick as they can the first 330ft and that the cars are basically done @1000ft. But from what i gather the run fairly big duration cams.I basically see my car is a stock eliminator i am head restricted and trying to run as fast as i can, same principle as stock So here is where i am confused if we both are basically trying to do the same thing and people told me to run small duration cams and Stock racers are running large duration cams. How are we doing the same thing, who is right, which approach is better. Is it because stock is limited on the lift that the have to run a bunch of duration to make up for it, and since i can go up on lift that i can get away with less duration. I'm wondering if my car would run faster with more duration or would i slow down I hope this all makes since, and some one can clear up the confusion for me. |

Re: Couple of questions about Stock
Bigger cam, bigger headers, more gear, higher stall, higher rpm.

Re: Couple of questions about Stock
I would start with 10° to 15° more duration and i think you may want to consider a 104° lobe seperation, go with an aggressive lobe, good springs such as Manley NexTek {available for solid, hyd, and rollers} springs and titanium retainers

Re: Couple of questions about Stock
I run a 418 cubic inch windsor stroker 10.5 compression motor with World products heads which
flow 265 at 600 intake and 210 exhaust . With this combination and a 691/668 272/280 at 50 Lunati roller cam in a 2880 lb car with 430 gears i had a 1.35 60' and the car went 10.03 1'4 mile at 133 with a small amount of moroso mechnical throttle stop (4 turns) shut off . I believe the 1/8 mile speed was 107 this was behind a C4 automatic |

Re: Couple of questions about Stock
i shift at 6100 rpm which is where max hp is made. Converter stalls at 4500 rpm (8 inch TCS model) max torque is 540 lbs at 4300 At this point the car still has too much converter slippage and would have more
mile per hour. |
