Re: July 1975 NHRA class records
Thanks for posting the list of 1975 Modified class records Tom. I was looking all over for it!
Flew Butch to Detroit to go through the 500" Hemi from his former Omni Pro-Stocker with brother Denny. He said it looked like it had only made 3-4 passes since he put it up over 30 years ago! None the less it got a fresh hone, rings & bearings, valve lap and springs etc. It sounds strong! Put it in the B/MP Duster. Just boys having fun L-R: Ted Spehar, Denny, Butch, Greg Charney and Steve Atwell.

Re: July 1975 NHRA class records
Only noticed 2 Pontiacs on the list. But, to me, they are both famous, in Pontiac Stock racing history.
As many here probably know, Mick Leiferman was Stock RU @ Indy, 3 years running, from '75 thru '77, & was part of the All-Pontiac final, in '77, which Mike McKinney won. Mick's '71 GTO was a nat record holder for 5 years running, '73-'77. For some reason, I've only been able to come up with 2 pics of his car. If anybody has some other good ones, please post. The other car on that list is the Tons-a-Fun wagon, driven by Charlene Wood. I think her & Gary had at least 2 of 'em. One had a Lemans hood, & the other had a GTO type hood. I know Charlene won a lot of stuff with the wagons, including the nat event in Canada. IIRC, it was called the Grandnational maybe. Anyhow, Charlene was inducted into the division 1 hall of fame. If I have any of this wrong, maybe she'll chime in & correct it. I know she's a member here & posted on the Best Pontiac Powered Stockers thread. |

Here's a pic from the Grandnational she won.
Another thing the car was famous for was the "twister" launches it made, lifting the LF high off the track. Not something you really wanna do, but lots of spectators probably liked it. |
