Royal purple 0-8w.
They say this oil is a little faster than reg oil. When I put it in can I run it all the time or does it hurt the motor to run this oil all the time? Thanks

Re: Royal purple 0-8w.
You can do what makes you comfortable, but that is a very thin oil.
Will it make a little more power? For sure. I would save it for heads up runs when you need a little help, and run something a little safer for everyday racing. i.e. hot weather, hot lapping, late night moisture, etc. Just my thoughts. J.R. |

X3! I know some Pro Stock cars run it all the time. Different deal there.

X4. For me, just not worth the risk and expense.

Re: Royal purple 0-8w.
There's a balance between those thin oils and the rod/main clearances. Clearances that work fine for 'normal' oil viscosity (5w20, 10w30, etc.) can get you into trouble with the lighter viscosity oils. And the clearances needed to run the lighter oils...all the time... can paint you into a corner if you want to use the heavier stuff.
Do your homework and make sure to involve your engine builder. -Al

Re: Royal purple 0-8w.
Al we have had a few people around here build very tight clearance
engines, some with smaller bearings etc. where they needed to run thin oil only. Haven't seen one that lasted the race weekend yet, and for some that was after very long tow. As I mentioned above, thin oil in a regular clearance type engine is only meant for that one heads up run that matters. After that, get the regular stuff back in there. Don't get lazy and leave it in there. J.R. |

Re: Royal purple 0-8w.
I have shown up where I thought Class would be tough with the zero weight Royal Purple oil already in it. For various reasons, left it in for eliminations. Ran it all weekend. Not crazy about the low oil pressure at a warm idle, but saw Zero other issues.
If you are having to pay someone else to build your engine, you might want to ask them about it. They know your oil pump & bearing clearances.

Re: Royal purple 0-8w.
I once tried RP very thin oil in my Firebird Stocker.
Oil pressure would drop to near zero at low engine rpms... I Dumped that oil out after 1 race weekend.....and it was no faster than what I was using before.....Mobil 1 10-30 or 5-30.....and oil pressure was always good with the Mobil 1 and it was faster than most other typical oils.....
