327 crankshafts

Some time back, some seller on Ebay had a 327 steel large journal crank for sale, it was a fresh .010"on the mains, and 2" standard small journal on the rods. I didn't buy it, but would it be a possibility to use one of those in that configuration in an 010 350 block with Manley or equivalent legal small journal rods,legal pistons and pins,etc, and use it in a stocker? Would that constitute" crossbreeding of parts"or since the stock basic configuration of the generic 327 is maintained, would it retain legality?It's not like somebody put Oldsmobile rods in their Chevy, Chevy valves in their Ford,or some thing like that. Travis, are you out there?

don't know if it's legal BUT 68-69 pickups usually had the forged cranks.
the cars usually didn't...

He's right.Trucks and Corvettes were usually the source for steel large journal cranks. Also, the 327/325 horse Chevelle motor had them. I heard of some little garage about 25 years ago that ordered a basic 307 rebuilt short block through a parts house, and when they got it, the 307 had one of those cranks in it,obviously put there by a rebuilder. I guess to them, they were all the same.

i raced a 327 in a stocker camaro for a long time and in the later years i would go to the machine shops and ask if they had any 307 cranks. they would give me the cranks for nothing because they were throwing them away or selling them for scrap. a must cheaper way to go

Greg, From this discription this crank will not be legal in stock. This crank came from factory with large main and rod journals, someone has turned the rod journal .100 ( hundred thou ) to make it a small journal... Luke

That would be a good way to go if you want a cast crank.The 307 and the large journal 327 used the same crank right down to the casting number. The 307 I mentioned must have come from a volumne engine rebuilding house as some kind of an accident,because no 307 came like that originally.

i used the same cast crank for five years and my camaro would shift at 7,000 and come through at 7400. those old style cast cranks i think are better then steel for my application
