NHRA history question - Gas classes
My first post here.
I am trying to fill in the gaps of my knowledge of NHRA Competition Eliminator classes and class histories. Q1. When did the NHRA delete the Gas ( /G) classes from their mainstream racing. 1980s or was it later? Q2. What Gas classes still exist in a renamed form? Are the "sedan bodied" Altered cars a direct replacement for the original Gas classes? (A/G now C/A etc.) Q3. Is the SS/VX (Volkswagen) class in Super Stock Eliminator an equivalent for the old H/G, I/G etc. classes that were basically dominated by hot VW Volkswagens? Regards from OzzyMike in Australia |

Re: NHRA history question - Gas classes
I looked through old rule books (don't ask me why I save them) and Gas Coupes as part of Comp Eliminator appear up to the 1989 rulebook and are gone in the 1990 edition. I am not sure if they were renamed or not. I also don't have an answer to your Volkswagen question. Hopefully someone else can chime in.
